In a 2018 class riddled with stars whose games will immediately translate to the next level, there is a particular player at the upper echelons of that group, but may not be getting the recognition…yet.
Joshua Fleeks of Cedar Hill might perhaps have a lot to prove, but this 6-0, 170 pound receiver has the tools and platform to do so.
Playing for Joey McGuire last season, Fleeks can look to add to his 663 receiving yards on 53 receptions. The Cedar Hill star also had eight touchdown receptions and now being the main target in the offense, he can expect his production to rise exponentially. He’ll have a tough test at first as the Longhorns take on the Allen Eagles in Week 1 of the High School Football season. That said, it’s hard to find a better platform to reach the coaches pursuing his services on a national stage.
As it stands, this young talent has received eight offers according to 247 Sports, with six of those offers coming from schools in Texas. From the list, Baylor seems to be the early favorite to lockdown the signature from Fleeks, but a lot can happen between now and National Signing Day. The Longhorn standout recently took in junior day at TCU as well, impressing the Horned Frogs staff but not yet receiving an offer. Texas A&M stands in a similar position with an offer said to be coming in the near future, with Kevin Sumlin looking to bolster his receiving core.
Blazing speed, sure hands and the ability to return kicks, Fleets has the total package when it comes to a skills player. He also has experience carrying the ball, where he was surprisingly effective in Cedar Hill’s reverse package. The versatile wideout also contains a high-level IQ so it bodes well as he will be expected to learn a sophisticated playbook with the offers he has on the table.
It will ultimately be up to this rising senior to stake his claim of being one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the state. What we do know is the talent is there, but to convert that talent into production is something we will have to wait and see this fall.
