2018 Recruiting Analysis: Converse Judson QB Julon Williams

If you are familiar with Texas High School Football in San Antonio, chances are you’ve heard – or seen – Converse Judson QB Julon Williams light up area defenses for the past three seasons. Now heading into his senior year, San Antonians are not the only community taking notice of the Rockets play caller, but now the nation has an eye on him.

With already six offers to his name, and many more to surely come, Julon Williams is becoming a top recruit out of the San Antonio area.

After LSU commit Caden Sterns of Cibolo Steele, coaches and recruiters alike regard Williams as the one of most exciting players they’ve seen in a long time. While he is highly regarded for his running ability from the pocket, it should be noted that the throwing ability this Judson signal caller has is up there with some of the best as well, making him a vital asset to any offense he plays for. While many may look on paper and see the 5-10 height, it only takes watching him once to see that he not only plays with the mentality of a six-footer, but also the intangibles that he has allows him to get out of the pocket, and the natural ability to make those throws on the run to precision.

It also must be noted that he is listed as an athlete, so some talks are saying he may switch position when he signs his letter of intent. While UTSA, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, and Virginia have all offered Williams, almost all will be in the search for a starter. It’s hard to fathom that he would not compete for that position when stepping on campus. However, TCU, having former Texas A&M transfer Kenny Hill and DeSoto QB Shawn Robinson in their ranks, the competition could potentially move him to a different role within the offense.

It would be hard to move a player with over 4,500 and 2,500 career passing and rushing yards, respectively from the quarterback position. But with 84 total touchdowns in three years (43 rushing), chances are Williams can strive in any skills position he lines up at.

It will be interesting to see just how his recruiting process plays out, and with offers flying in, it might be a while before we know his ultimate destination. What we do know, however, is Julon Williams is making an even bigger splash in the recruiting ranks than he already has, and some team is a about to receive a program-changing player. The San Antonio area is taking note, and soon the nation might all have a little “juju” – just some of the good juju in this case.
