When speaking on top Texas recruits at wide receiver, a name that is on the lips of many of the nation’s top recruiters is that of Al’vonte Woodard. The Houston Lamar star is generating a massive amount of buzz in the recruiting ranks, and with the way he has been improving, the attention is well deserved.

Having caught 42 passes for 909 yards, Woodard would always be a target for a number of Texas schools where the need for receivers will be high after this coming season’s departures. However, with Woodard adding 15 receiving touchdowns to his name as well, this four-star recruit seems to see his stock elevate day by day coming into 2017.

The 6-2, 180 pound wide out helped his Houston Lamar team to an 11-2 record, but what seems to be even more impressive are the fundamentals that this young talent has in his game. After attending Texas A&M’s Junior Day in late January, offers flew in for this rising senior from Oregon State, Colorado, Baylor and Oklahoma State.

Of all 23 offers that Woodard holds, signs lead to him becoming an Aggie by this time next season. Kevin Sumlin’s team, who is slated to need help at the WR position with the imminent departure of Christian Kirk and company will look at Woodard as one of the viable replacements should he decide to play his college football in College Station.

With explosive speed off the line of scrimmage and sound ability to catch the ball away from his body, the little things that this Houston Lamar product shows in practice translate to the field where he shines. Also a detailed route runner, coaches have said his ability with vertical routes is unmatched. This would make him quite the pickup for teams with elite passers. Averaging over a touchdown a game for his prep side, 2017 has the possibility to be even more fruitful in the offers department for Woodard with the likes of some other SEC powers said to be on the lookout for his signature.

Already holding offers from Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Arkansas, the competition for this young man is arguably one of the nation’s top conferences will be a story to keep an eye on throughout the summer and fall. That being said, it would not be a surprise if a late charge from one of the Texas school’s (Texas Tech, Baylor, Texas), who are in need of receiver help as well, make a late charge for this playmaker.

To stay in the home state or take your talents to the nation: Al’vonte Woodard has a decision on his hands, but one he is sure to catch and take in stride.
