After todays escape from defeat in the final seconds aginst a strong Abilene team do you guys think this will be a factor leading to a drop in the National rankings? I have seen both play this year and we should have beaten Abilene but didn't no excuses and SLC on espn 2. Kinda doubting SLC's #1 ranking right now and leaning towards Colerain.

Regardless of the rankings, I believe this shows that Evangel is quiet a great team and can compete with just about anybody (on the national front)....even while having three losses to teams that might all lose on the same weekend of the playoffs.

Little Rock Central 27
Springdale 21

Southlake Carroll 35
Abilene 30

Lufkin
Longview (haven't heard score yet)

Colerain won 34-3 tonight to advance to the state finals against...... Canton McKinley! Colerian outgained Worthington Kilbourne by 361-136 on a cold, wet and windy night. Kilbourne never got into the red zone and their only score was a 51 yard field goal!

Word is that Colerain won by this lopsided score despite playing one of their worst games this year. Yikes.

The Cardinals are waltzing through the Ohio D1 tournament with an average score of 35-3. I'm not sure if any team ever has gone through the tournament with such margins of victory. It seems as though nobody can touch them.....

COLERAIN, my choice for #1 as of now but do think my Eagles should get a look at getting close to be back in soon do to the SOS and vast improvement to unarguably one of the nations top 25 teams at this point in the season. Thats just my opinion but look at the numbers and the #1 team who got lucky and beat Abilene whom we statistically dominated . no excuse they beat us fair and square or should i say we beat us fair and square. Would love to play SLC at this point in both prorams season and think we could beat them by 14. We can outscore them easily with there defense being worse than ours and also think could put enough pressure on Chase to cause a few turnovers and beat them.

I would definitely agree that you guys have a great team. Where our opinions might err, however, is that at some point a loss is a loss is a loss. With 3 of them, no matter who they came to or by how close, you'll have an EXTREMELY tough argument that you should be ranked. My Panthers are 13-1 right now, only loss coming to current #8 Camden by 2 points when the snapper put it in the end zone and Camden recovered. Regardless of how well they've played since, though, I would still be cautious about a top 25 ranking due to their loss unless they win the state title next week. If Evangel can win their state title, THEN I think they may have a case for one of the 20-25 spots.

Abeline was regionly ranked. I don't think that will affect the national rankings. Good teams are supposed to be challenged in the playoffs. Especially in Texas.

Hey Evangel. The challenge in looking at game by game in Texas, is that the level of competition is unmatched anywhere else in the country. If SLC wins the state title (or whoever it is in our bracket), they will have played a tougher schedule than anywhere in the state or the country. So far we have beaten a 12-1 Denton Ryan , a 12-1 Abilene a 9-3 Allen and an 8-3 Keller. Too make it all the way to the title will probably include a 12-1 Denton Ryan again, a 14-0 Lufkin and a 14-1 Katy.

Colerain's schedule doesn't come even close to that, nor does Independence. Moeller and Elder are essentially the two good teams they played, and they're not the same level this year as in the past (Elder 7-4 and Moeller 10-3). Winning by enourmous margins elsewhere speaks merely to the level of competition. I have no doubt Colerain is very good, but I would definitely challenge you on your having an easy time knocking us off by 14 since you played Abilene close. Just as you are a better program at this point, so was Abilene.

how can the #1 team in the country only win by 5 and give up 30 points? colerain has dominated everyone and their 1st team defense only gave up three touchdowns the whole year (the rest were by the backups) this team would run up and down the field on this team.

Folks, unlike other states, Texas boasts more than one of the nation's elite teams every year. And, on November 27, 2004, two of those elite teams entered a game both sporting 12-0 records. As the game of football should be, it was a great, hard fought, down to the wire game.

SLC is still the number one team in America.

Ok let me say this...
If you dont think Abilene is one of the top teams Nationally then you are absolutely fricking crazy. I was at the Abilene-SLC game. Abilene was in fact at a point where they could have easily been blown away and indimidated. Abilene had a big size advantage on Southlake Carroll and I mean a big advantage. But as good as Southlake Carroll is, their size really isn't much of a factor. Credit to Abilene is they never gave up. Southlake Carroll is still IMHO the best team in the country right now and I am putting my state flag in the ground right now saying that.

I've said from the start that SL Carroll is the best team in Texas (and the nation). They've done nothing to disprove that. Abilene may be the second best team in the nation. No team anywhere plays the same level of competion as SLC. Their size doesn't scare anyone, but they've got all the other qualities of a great HS football team. They are 44-1 the last three years (only loss was 16-15) against the best that Texas HS football has to offer. They are as dominent of a HS football team as I have seen (Cedric Benson led Midland Lee the other). Their national #1 ranking cannot and should not be disputed by anyone!

Cards, others have explained it quite well. Level of competition is the difference. You will not run thru a season in Texas 5A football, winning every game 63-0, as you might with Independence in NC or in several other states. Colerain is an outstanding team...........but they would not be 13-0 if playing 5A football in Tx.

No one has ever ran through the Ohio D1 like Colerain since I've been alive. Say what you will but Colerain has the best defense that I have seen in highschool. They get pressure rushing only three against teams with Division 1 lineman. That is unheard of in Ohio. The level of competition in Ohio is second to no one.

What a :lame: post!

We play defense when it matters most, our defense won the game yesterday!

If we had no defense then our offense would never pull away, the other team would keep scoring like we do. Once our defense makes adjustments after the first possesions they make the necessary stops for the offense to pull away.

PLEASE, if you are going to talk down another team do so with some sort of fact.

Here are three accomplishments by SLCs defense this year, in the toughest district, in the toughest classification, in the toughest state:
• Allowed only 18 points to a Keller offense that averaged 37.1 points per game in the regular season.

• Held Fossil Ridge RB Larry Carter to five yards rushing and no touchdowns. Carter rushed for 1,066 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.

• Held Irving RB Jamaal Evans to 149 yards rushing. Evans finished the regular season with 1,972 yards

I think Texas needs to get a little perspective. Ohio is VERY competitive with Texas in the quality of competition there. Ohio often boasts more than one team in the national rankings, suffering at times becasue all of our best teams have to play one another for the same title (UNLIKE in Texas. In the USA Today era, Ohio has had at least three programs crowned national poll champions. And Princeton finished an undefeated 2nd in one year.

The Ohio D1 tournament is replete with teams that have hit the national rankings in recent years, and the vast majority of them all go after the same title. Just this year, Colerain, Elder, Moeller, St. Xavier, Centerville, St. Edward, St. Ignatius and Glenville (forgive me if I missed any) have been nationally or regionally ranked at some point.

All of these teams entered the Ohio D1 tourney and it looks as though Colerain will come out on top without breaking a sweat.

So please, Texas, spare us the "nobody competes with us" crapola. Colerain would shut SLC down. End of story. The cardinals are winning by an average of something like 41-6 this year and 35-3 or so in the tourney. End of lesson.

Dragons06,
Defense won the game? They gave up 30 freaking points! I don't think Colerain's 1st string D has given up that much all year! LMAO!!!!

And Colerain's defensive accomplishments are GALACTICALLY more impressive than SLC's. Their 1st string D has held teams to NEGATIVE yardage. I think even with the 2nd string D included, their opponents typically get just 100-150 ypg. Many opponents have NEVER entered the red zone!

Thanks for playing....
