Hey Chief, my Nederland Bulldogs stink at basketball. We are usually at the bottom of the district. We are a solid football program, making the playoffs nine years in a row. Basketball???
Our Basketball program used to be like that until they hired our current coach Mark Huff in 1997.He has come in and built us into a perrenial (sp) contender! We had won just 1 State Title before he came along and that was in 1949!

Chief, at least you have a state championship. We can't even get into the playoffs. We'll probably make fourth place in district this year, which is considered good compared to our past. Basketball
I like basketball, it's just not a sport to go watch at our high school, unless you are a glutton for punishment.

By ROB LANDRETH | For the Herald-Journal
GAFFNEY -- Phillip Buckson prepared for Gaffney's non-region game against Dorman by listening to some Kirk Franklin tunes.
Listening to music, whether it is R&B or gospel, before a game is one of Buckson's ways to find some solitude so he can mentally prepare.
And lately it's been working, especially on Tuesday night.
Buckson was an intimidating force inside for the Indians, as the 6-foot-7 center recorded a triple-double by scoring 18 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking 11 shots to lead Gaffney to a 62-53 win.
"Coach (Mark Huff) has stressed the importance of having fun," Buckson said. "I had fun tonight."
"He's really stepped it up," Huff said. "He played outstanding in the tournament a week ago and here tonight against a well-coached, good team. I just hope he can keep it up."
Buckson came through in the fourth period, when Gaffney needed him the most.
With Gaffney clinging to a 47-43 lead after the third, Dorman (10-5) scored five unanswered points to take a 48-47 lead early in the fourth. But Buckson, nicknamed "Buck," would not give in so easily as he scored the next five points for Gaffney as they retook the lead at 52-50 with five minutes left.
The lead would switch back and forth over the next couple of minutes, with Dorman taking the upper hand at 53-52 thanks to a 3-point basket by Shawn Creal, who led the Cavaliers with 12 points, with 4:48 left. That would be the last time Dorman would lead or score.
Buckson's presence in the paint against a much smaller team helped limit Dorman offensively the rest of the game.
In a span of just over a minute, Buckson blocked three of his four shots in the quarter and grabbed a pair of key defensive rebounds and helped keep Dorman from good shot opportunities.
"It's the same old story the last three times we've played them," Dorman coach Mark Freeze said. "We go brain dead with our shot selection and cannot get a good look at the basket. We rushed our shots late in the game. Buckson is a hard matchup for us and with his reach and athleticism is tough to defend."
While Buckson was doing his best Shaquille O'Neal impression, the Indians went on a 10-0 run down the stretch, thanks in part to 8-of-10 free throw shooting.
"It was a tough game," Huff said. "They are a good team. One of our goals is to win the fourth period and we did that tonight and got the win. The kids did a good job."
WOW A triple double in High School....WAY TO GO BUCK!!
