Good Luck to St Edwards this Saturday! I hope they beat Blair. Sorry to hear about Kuhar's injury. That just sucks.
Brandon, FL down here is in our district and has a really good wrestling team. Football team is pretty good too, but not on Lakeland's level.

Big showdown:
Now that St. Edward re-established itself as the top dual-meet team in Ohio, the Eagles will travel Saturday to eastern Pennsylvania for a triangular meet which includes Blair Academy (N.J.), the nation's No. 1-ranked high school wrestling team. A victory for the No. 2-ranked Eagles would likely move them up to No. 1.
On a humorous note, a Lakota West assistant coach at the recent Brecksville Holiday Tournament talked about sophomore Ryan Fields winning the Division I state title at 112 pounds. Fields was the state runner-up at 103 last season.
When asked if he had seen St. Edward freshman Collin Palmer wrestle yet, the coach said, "No, but so what? Fields has Bo Touris to work out with every day. Why should he worry about Palmer?"
The assistant coach's tune was different after watching Palmer at the Division I State Dual Meet Championships at Wadsworth on Sunday. Freshman Palmer had two pins and a technical fall, nearly rivaling senior brother Lance's three pins, which won him the MVP award.

Guaranteed As Death and Taxes: The St. Ed’s Show Returns!
Eagles Eye Saturday Matchup with Blair Academy
By Dan Ransick, Ohio Wrestling Site Senior Writer
There was talk that they might be vulnerable.
There was talk that Cincinnati Moeller was the team to expose their weaknesses. After all, Moeller was rated at the #4 team in the nation and had just won the Powerade Invitational- one of the nation’s toughest tournaments. When the dust settled, that’s all it was – talk. Lakewood St.Edward’s made their statement out on the mat.
The beginning was promising. Returning state place-winner Alex Weaver handled St. Ed’s tough freshman 103, John Cobos, by a score of 7-2. And then superfrosh Collin Palmer took the mat for St. Ed’s……. as the wheels came off for Moeller!
At 112, Palmer pinned his Moeller opponent.
At 119, Neil Birt of St. Ed’s scored another fall.
At 125, Keith Sulzer of St. Ed’s racked up a major decision over returning State Placer Eric Gobin.
At 130, Cadet All-American Danny Gonsor returned to the lineup with a bang, tech falling Jared Glaser of Moeller (himself a returning state qualifier).
St. Edward’s, five bouts into the meet against the #4 team in the nation, lead 21-3, with three state champions yet to wrestle in the middleweights plus the state’s best upperweight 1-2 punch in Brian Roddy and Chris Honeycutt. The match had barely started, yet it was over.
In the midst of the Moeller team disaster, Germaine Lindsey made a statement of his own, manhandling former state champ and two-time finalist Shawn Harris of St. Ed’s by a 14-7 count. Lindsey took Harris down at will! A matchup between him and Massillon Perry’s Thomas Straughn at state will be worth the price of admission by itself!.The win cut the deficit to 21-6.
Order was quickly restored. All the momentum that Moeller had after that matched was nullified when Lance Palmer took the mat. Moeller bumped up one of their best, Tommy Weinkam, to 145 to avoid Lance, and Palmer dominated and pinned his replacement. Weinkam found 145 to be no walk in the park- as he was taken apart easily by state champion Sean Nemec, 7-0. Still, wrestling up a weight, it may have been a victory to simply not give up any bonus points to Nemec! .In what could easily be a state finals preview, Mike Mahon of Moeller fell to Kyle Bertin of St. Ed’s in double overtime, as Bertin escaped for the win. Bertin has come on of late- and will try to win the same weight his brother won back in 2000. Moeller was able to cut the lead to 33-9 as Dean Gaier was able to outlast the tenacious Swift for an 11-7 win.
Next up was the most anticipated match-up at the state duals- between explosive sophomore Brian Roddy of St. Edward’s and Eric Cameron of Moeller. Although Cameron placed only 8th at state last year (and was on the losing end of two lopsided bouts with Roddy), he has been possibly the most improved wrestler in the state this season. First, he dominated all opposition to reach the finals of Ironman, where he won a hard-fought bout with Roddy. Then, he handled all opponents at two other very tough tournaments- the SWOWCA and the Powerade. In these three extremely tough tournaments, the Roddy match was his only close one- making Cameron the favorite in the eyes of most pundits. The pundits had it wrong- as Roddy threw Cameron to his back and pinned him in a wild scramble. The 171 lb. weight class may be the toughest in the state- with Roddy, Cameron, and Berea’s Dustin Kilgore.
Chris Honeycutt won by first period fall and Ben Rios a 9-0 major decision to make it 49-9, but Frank “The Tank” Becker was able to pin the St. Ed’s heavyweight to make it 49-15 and end the dual.
What’s scary about this shellacking of the #4 team in the nation is that it could have been worse. If St. Ed’s had wrestled starter Derek Tomasone at 160, there is a decent chance he would have beaten Dean Gaier, which would have made the final an ugly 52-12. If State Runner-up heavyweight Kuhar was healthy, he probably wins a decision instead of Ed’s losing by fall, which makes the final a ridiculous 55-6.
Lakewood St. Edward’s versus Blair Academy
There is one time where St. Ed’s could be considered the underdog: when they wrestle Blair Academy of New Jersey. For those who do not now, Blair has been national champions for five straight years. St. Ed’s has been chasing them, nipping at their heels but not quite able to take them down. The match for “all the marbles” between the nation’s undisputed top two program’s takes place this weekend in Eastern Pennsylvania. Stop back for a preview of this bout on Friday Evening!

Bucs leave no doubt about No. 1
BLAIR ACADEMY 37, ST. EDWARD 18. The top-ranked Bucs are up to the challenge from No. 2 St. Edward.
Sunday, January 15, 2006
By BRIAN FORTNER
The Express-Times
EAST STROUDSBURG | Blair Academy has been on top of the high school wrestling world for so long that it's become a foregone conclusion that the Buccaneers will finish each season as the consensus No. 1 team in America.
Coach Jeff Buxton's squad took a major step toward another top finish Saturday night with a dominating 37-18 victory over St. Edward, of Ohio, in the inaugural Blair Super-quad at East Stroudsburg University's Koehler Fieldhouse.
Talk had been circulating that No. 2 St. Edward had the pieces in place to put a stop to the Buccaneers' dominance.
With five starters ranked in the nation's top 20, the Eagles had reason to be optimistic. So they traveled to East Stroudsburg with designs on toppling the Bucs from their lofty perch.
Blair Academy, ranked No. 1 nationally by Amateur Wrestling News, again solidified itself as the top dog and in the process silenced all doubters.
"Well, were not bragging," said Buxton, whose Bucs extended their dual-meet win streak to 118. "We still have some tough matches left on the schedule, but this is a nice win. I'm impressed the way we wrestled today. We beat three very good programs today."
Blair (8-0) warmed up for the main event with decisive victories over Bergen Catholic (49-12) and Ocean Township (68-9) earlier on the day.
Blair has now won four straight meetings with the Eagles, dating to 2000, and leads the series 6-3.
"We have a real young lineup and a lot people questioned if we could stay No. 1," Blair junior Eric Medina said. "Every one came through tonight and we showed we deserve our ranking."
Medina (23-0), the top-ranked 152-pounder in the country, sparked the Bucs by pinning Eagles senior Kyle Bertin in 35 seconds to give his team a 16-4 lead after five bouts.
Medina's fall came on the heels of Travis Blasco's 4-2 decision over Sean Nemec at 145.
The two wrestlers split a pair of bouts earlier this season, and both coaches cited this bout as pivotal to Saturday's outcome.
"It was a great match between two great competitors," St. Edward coach Greg Urbas said. "We obviously needed to get a win there. It was one of the matches we thought were tossups that we needed to have to win."
"(Blasco and Nemec) have been going back and forth for a while now," Buxton said. "We knew that was a key matchup coming in -- that one and 135. And we weren't counting on a pin at 152."
Nemec defeated Blasco 6-4 in the finals of the Ironman Tournament, in Ohio, on Dec. 10. Blasco (21-3) got his revenge a week later in the Beast of The East semifinals, scoring a decision on his way to a runner-up finish.
Junior Kellen Russell (28-2), of High Bridge, gave the Bucs a 4-0 lead with a 13-4 major decision over Dan Gonsor at 130.
After surrendering a takedown 25 seconds into the first period, Russell rebounded to build a 6-2 lead after two periods.
Gonsor chose to start the third from the neutral position, obviously feeling confident on his feet. But Russell made him pay for that decision by scoring three takedowns and a stalling point in the final two minutes to ensure the bonus-point victory.
Max Shanaman (20-3) followed with a big 3-0 decision over Sean Harris at 135 to make it 7-0 Blair.
"Hats off to (Blair). They looked super," Urbas said. "They have an outstanding team and an outstanding program. Right now they're the best around and they keep going out and proving it. We had three shots at them this season and they rose to the challenge each time."
