(Prior to 1980 the Smallest Classification was designated Class B)

B was a different classification, but there was still 1A.

Class B from 1972-1979 was the equivalent of Class 1A from 1980 to the present in that it was the smallest classification in existence for 11-man football.

The enrollment cutoffs were as follows:

1976-1978 realignment
4A 1220+
3A 550-1219
2A 240-549
1A 125-239
B 1-124

1978-1980 realignment
4A 1260+
3A 580-1259
2A 255-579
1A 130-254
B 1-129

Then in 1980 the UIL essentially just moved every classification up by getting rid of Class B altogether and making 1A the smallest classification and also creating a new largest classification 5A, but as you see from the enrollment cutoffs, the 1A of 1980 was almost exactly the same as the class B of 1978, just as 5A is the equivalent of the old 4A. This is why my table above switches from 1A to class B when you go back before 1980.

1980-1982 realignment
5A 1310+
4A 615-1309
3A 265-614
2A 135-264
1A 1-134

What I meant was there was still a 1A, but thats why I added B to mine also. I was mostly curious on why you didn't go all the way back. Feel free to use my info if you want. Thanks again for allowing me to use your information. I always wondered why they would add b at bottom instead of just addinga 6A..... Who knows what they are thinkin when they come up with some of their BRIGHT ideas LOL
