Houston Smiley was the original North Forest ISD high school with their inaugural U.I.L. varsity football season being in 1954. The district expanded to 2 high schools in 1972 with the opening of Forest Brook. Smiley and Forest Brook High Schools merged back in to one entity in 2008 to form the current North Forest High School, which is currently located at the old Forest Brook campus.

The Smiley football program had their peak in the late-60's to early-70's, advancing to the State Semifinals twice, losing to eventual State Champ Odessa Permian in 1968 and eventual State Champ San Antonio Lee in 1971.

UPDATE: The Smiley history has been extended back all the way to their inaugural season of 1954 and the final 2007 season has been added on as well. The history of the now defunct program should be complete.
