I still think Benson was a great back in high school........

And I also think that Terrius Purvey is one of the best back with a bright future...........now, only if he would pass those stinkin classes

I'm amazed at the lack of respect Kenneth Hall has gotten from this poll.

I agree with you...This poll was for High School Accomplishments....if we were to throw college and pro accomplishment into the mix then outstanding players like Earl Campbell and San Antonio Marshall's Priest Holmes would be looked at....afterall, the National High School Player of the Year Award is the Ken Hall Trophy.

One thing you guys should take into account with Kenneth Hall is that most high schools did not play freshman at all no matter how big they were. My grandfather went to high school at Austin High in the late 40's and did not play on the varsity until his senior year. However, he was given a scholarship as a running back at Oklahoma State (was Oklahoma A&M) then after he moved to Stillwater to finish his senior year in high school. Cedric was an amazing back I saw him play several times in high school, but it will always be unfair to compare backs of different generations. Remember in the days of Hall weightlifting and summer workouts programs did not exist either.

pertaining to next year, i think Derke Robinson of 4a hebron is gonna be one of the best in state next year.

heres his stat for his junior year so far(and he usually only played in the first half since he played for a strong 10-0 hebron team):

152 carries
1435 yards
23 touchdowns

as you can see he averages about 9 yards per carry, on 15 carries per game.

hes a strong powerful back, he doesnt have blazing speed, but he has the quickness for his size to make the cuts he needs, and make people miss.

I don't think Luna is the best running back in Texas, but he is a very nice kid and is an excellent baseball player as well on the Dragon Varsity team, as well as one of the fastest backs in Texas. He's not the best, but he's one of the local favorites here in Southlake and is definitely an excellent back.

i have not voted on this poll yet for one reason. I cannot figure out if the question is who was the best high school running back in texas or if it is what the caption says and is the best running back to come out of texas

Well for some reason, Wes Danaher from Calallen name is not a choice. He only set the Texas record for most yardage in his high school carrier of well over 7000 yards (Appx). Those are all well known names up their, but Wes Danaher gets my vote. He got a scholarship to SMU and got injured, never to be heard from again. Those names you have listed did great things after High school, but Wes was the man during high school. I might be wrong, Cedric Benson I believe broke Wes's record, but the white boy from Calallen still gets my vote. :P

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Doubt it its not hard to run behind a line like he had. We held him to 37 yards russing and caused him to fumble twice!

Texas has seen more than it's share of great running backs but back in the early '80s there was this kid that stood head and shoulders above everybody else during that period and he went on to have a great college career and even better pro career.

I know that Earl didn't have some of the numbers of these other running backs, but the opponents that played him, feared him probably more than any of these others.

Joe Washington of PA Lincoln is the best so far. But Jaamal Charles from PA Memorial broke his south Texas all-time leading ruhing record. Also he is #4 rusher in the nation, and has committed to UT. I think he wll be the best player ever to come out of the state of Texas.
