Sounds like somebody thinks it a real game.
Knotts comments in the Charlotte Observer:
"That was my fault last year. I take all of the blame for what happened at Gardner Webb. I had no clue they'd blitz and scheme. I didn't know it was somebody's superbowl. It was practice as far as I was concerned. Wel'l approach it with a different mentality this time."

Tied up 21-21 in 4th quarter. Heard reserves are in for both teams at this point. Heard Byrnes QB Korn suffered a shoulder injury but I dont know how serious it is?
I don't think it is serious. I know btango is at the game. Hopefully he can give us a good idea how both teams looked.

Indy's big O-line wore Byrnes down in the 2nd half.
Indy had 7 penalties and lost 2 fumbles in 1st half.
Both teams subbed in 3rd qtr.
Byrnes scored twice on short field after TO in 1st half
Indy scored once on short field after TO in 2nd half
Byrnes O-line has some work to do
Willy Korn didn't have his usual "touch" tonight but still looked good running and leading the team.
Byrnes secondary is very small

"I just got back.
It was real simple: Independence is a MUCH bigger, more talented team. They erased Stanley Hunter by combo-blocking him and they overwhelmed Byrnes at the line of scrimmage. Byrnes could not stop Independence from running the football...in some cases, busting off HUGE runs. Independence turned the ball over early three times, and Byrnes capitalized for 21 points. In the second half, that reversed itself.
Byrnes is still good enough to win the state title this year, but when Willy Korn/Stanley Hunter/Chad Diehl leave...no. Those who think Willy Korn is the "product of a system" need to have their eyes checked...it was increasingly obvious tonight that Korn was basically the entire Byrnes offense. The families of Independence players were grinding their teeth off around me tonight in frustration, watching him escape the rush time and time again. They'd never seen anything like it.
Independence has some serious talent, and they're extremely well-coached. You can see why it is they've won 98 straight regular-season games now."

Sorry to be off topic, but how did Indy do against Charlotte Catholic last thursday?
I think that scrimmage was called off due to lightning. But if they HAD played, Indy would have whipped Catholic. The Cougars are very good, don't get me wrong...but they're not in the same league as Independence.

_____________________________________________________________________________
Byrnes D front looked pretty good but lack of size ran them down. Indy was able to run the ball very efficently.
Indy had seven penalties and three turnovers in the first quarter. Two fumbles and a pass that was thrown too high. Byrnes scored all three times on short field.
Indy ran out of time in the first half driving inside the Byrnes 30.
Fourth quarter Byrnes got the ball on the seven and lost three yards on first down. Bentley called time out and put his second team. Indy recovered a fumble and scored.
Indy was by far the dominant team after the first quarter. Not even that close. Second teams made it even more so. If Indy and Byrnes both had a Will Korn the score would be about 42-14 for Indy.
_____________________________________________________________________________
First quarter Indy had three turnovers. High pass by the still eractic qb went off receivers hands and returned for a td. Two fumbles. One off the exchange when running back 1B (splits time) entered game. Indy had seven penalties the first quarter. Byrnes scored off of three turnovers inside the Byrnes 40. Scores a score.
After the first quarter Indy ran the ball efficently. Indy was inside the Byrnes thirty when the first half ended.
Byrnes got the ball to start the fourth quarter on its own seven (approximately) and lost three yards the first play. Bentley called time and put in the second team. QB fumbles Indy recovered and scored on second (?) play from scrimmage. Indy second team scored late. They ran the ball all but once in the series. The second half used a running clock.
Byrnes front seven looked good but they will have problems against a big aggressive line that can run block. The size wore them down. The Byrnes D backfield needs some work. Indy's qb was 8-16 in the first half but he did not check secondary receivers and many completions were good catches. Indy has a 6'5" wideout and gave Rebel dbs trouble.
Korn ran the ball well and is smart qb (!). He was not as on tonight as I have seen him in the past. He also got alot of pressure on several plays. He is an excellent runner and is a smart qb. His receivers did not help a few times when they got gator arms in traffic.
If Indy had a qb equivalent of Korn the game would not be close.
Indy looked absolutley terrible in the first quarter. Tonight was Indy's first scrimmage and the jitters showed. Nine penalties in the first two quarters. Two were holds on big plays. The one on the pass was obvious the one on the run was very questionable to say the least.
Anyone who tells you that Byrnes first team outplayed Indy's is biased.
Just as last year it is a scrimmage but it gives you an idea of what is ahead. Byrnes will really need to get it together against a big aggressive team that can run it. They will have to just outscore them. The d backfield needs some work. Indy's qb must step it up. They must cut out the penalties. The dbs need to work together better, they left open some Byrnes receivers, although they had good recovery.
Field looked great. I can't wait to see the scoreboard working at the GC game. Also the other additions will make Nixon a special place.

If Moeller can run it Byrnes will have a game but Korn will be the difference.
Korn may have got banged up I don't know but he did not come out. He was not able to sit in the pocket and pick Indy apart. He made some great runs that saved Byrnes from giving up huge losses.
GC has the athletes and the size but I still think Byrnes can pull it off. That one could get out of hand though if Korn is not on his A game.
Both of these teams will improve. Byrnes is nowhere near the team they were last year nor is Indy but I they are closer and have a better chance to catch up.
Hey Clean can you tell me where you got that post?

Considering Glades' great speed and size......I'm liking their chances more and more. I can't wait for the game.
