**UPDATED Thru End of 2009 Season**

This is a posting similar to the all-inclusive one on the main Texas HS Football board but it only includes current 2A programs. Only programs that fielded a varsity football squad for at least half of the time period in question are included in the winning percentage rankings (i.e. teams playing 25 or more years are included in the 50 year rankings, teams playing 20 or more years are included in the 40 year rankings, etc.)

Click here to see statewide rankings

Win totals and rankings were compiled using 11-man varsity records of the 205 2A programs that competed in UIL district play in 2009 and includes all games thru the end of the 2009 Season.

The numbered ranking below is based on win/loss % excluding ties, while the actual order is based on number of losses. Just another way to look at results for the last 5 years and last 50 years.

2000 - 2005 (last 6 years)
W/L % ranking / wins / losses / win % / Team
1 77 10 0.8851 Stratford
3 59 14 0.8082 Crawford
5 57 14 0.8028 Idalou
2 65 15 0.8125 Rogers
4 62 15 0.8052 Newton
6 60 15 0.8000 Crane
8 61 16 0.7922 Whitewright
9 58 16 0.7838 Holliday
7 65 17 0.7927 Garrison
10 58 17 0.7733 Troup
11 57 17 0.7703 Canadian
12 58 18 0.7632 Big Sandy
14 56 20 0.7368 Refugio
13 60 21 0.7407 Marlin
15 56 22 0.7179 Bangs

1956 - 2005 (last 50 years)
W/L % ranking / wins / losses / win % / Team
1 434 146 0.7483 Refugio
2 387 156 0.7127 Crawford
3 390 158 0.7117 Sonora
4 403 166 0.7083 Daingerfield
6 381 166 0.6965 Garrison
5 397 168 0.7027 Mart
7 374 168 0.6900 Holliday
8 369 172 0.6821 Denver City
10 359 173 0.6748 Clifton
12 352 176 0.6667 Stratford
9 381 178 0.6816 Rogers
13 353 180 0.6623 Littlefield
11 373 186 0.6673 Childress
14 362 190 0.6558 Newton
15 359 191 0.6527 Italy

The sort based on losses is interesting especially for the last 50 years since less games were played in general by teams that were in the lowest classifications during the years in which you could not advance past regional. For example, I believe 1972 was the first year Class B had a state championship.

Note: The above ranking is derived from and therefore only includes the teams in the first post on this topic. Therefore if all 2A schools were included, some of the teams at the bottom of the above rankings would be replaced by other 2A schools that were not ranked as high in wins. (see below for the full list--thanks WOS87!)

Just FYI. The actual top 15 rankings of fewest losses khw1980 posted above is listed below. Teams I've added in are in bold. Both lists only include teams that played the entire 6 season and 50 season time periods respectively.

Is there anyway to put up a winning percentage against 2A competition over the last decade? It is impressive that Newton and Marlin are still near the top after being 3A for the last 30 years or so, playing 3A and 4A competition regularly.

This is only Newton's 3rd year in 2A and they are 30-5 over the past 3 years. They are 4-4 against 3A opponents during that time which makes them currently 26-1 against 2A opponents with the one loss coming to Boyd in the 2004 State Finals 14-17.

Five teams are on all 6 Top Fifteen lists - Crawford, Holliday, Newton, Refugio and Rogers[/size]

It appears to me that Garrison should have made it six, with rankings from decade to 50 years of 3, 7, 15, 12, 10, and 6.

By my count there are almost 220 schools in Class 2A. With 90 positions on the chart, only thirty teams are represented. Ten of those thirty appear only once. So twenty teams dominated the other 80 places. Taken a little further fourteen of the 219 teams claimed 66 of the 90 positions on the chart, nine teams account for 51 of the 90 slots, and six filled 36 places.

Unfortunately, you pointed out the error the day before I updated it to include the 2006 records and Garrison fell out of the top 15 for the 20 year ranking. Stratford and Mart have now popped up on all 6 rankings so there are currently 7 teams to make all six, thus increasing the concentration of power even more.

Hey, it may be late to give the recognition, but if it had been one of my favorite schools I would be glad that someone noticed and was kind enough to mention it.

By the way, thanks for all your effort to put this together for us, it is interesting, enlightening, and all the better because several of the schools I watch for are on the list more than once. :kicking: I just hope the others aren't below 200 for any decade.

THANKS

Ok.. well Celina has 82 wins during the last 6 years.....are you going to discount their victories since they were in class 2A mainly. They've bounced between the 2-3A.

80+ wins in 6 years is impressive no matter which classification your in!

Stratford (1999-present): 100-15; two state titles; six state semifinal appearances; two 10-game playoff winning streaks; 30-game overall winning streak.

To date, Stratford has made the state semifinals six times in the last eight seasons. The Elks have qualified for semifinals in two different classifications, under two different head coaches and with three different quarterbacks. The current Elks were in grade school in 1999 when Stratford made the first state semifinal appearance in school history.
