The 35-7 Bowie lead over Lamar at halftime was the largest Bowie lead over any opponent at halftime this season.
It did get a little touch and go there in the 2nd half, on the 2 turnovers.....but, Bowie's d manage to force Lamar to turnover on downs on 2 consecutive possesions.
This is a milestone victory for Bowie, given the history involved. And considering that the victory was against a well established program.
Granted,,,, Lamar is a little down this year..... But there have been a few other down years for Lamar where Bowie could not come through.
Bowie CAN NOT let it's guard down against Sam Houston.... I-20 trophy is on the line.
For right now.... I am enjoying this one. This group of kids is a resilliant bunch to come back and pull this off one week after the Cedar Hill game. Good job to all.

Way to go, Vol's, now get out there and make the playoffs!

what does evryon think about the team this yr. playoffs or not? i havnt seen them play this season, so i cant say. and whos the biggest threats to bowie in the dist right now. i fgure cedar hill, and desoto.
Cedar Hill and Desoto are shoe ins for the playoffs. And since they are the 2 smallest schools, they will go DIV II and play Jesuit and MacArthur.
I believe, given Bowie's defeat of Lamar, that Bowie, Arlington, and Duncanville will fight it out for the 2 DIV I playoff spots vs Trinity and South Grand Prairie.

Great job, Vols! I'm a HUGE fan of Perry and Kemp and I hope those two turn things around. Of course, I hope that BOTH Arlington and Bowie beat Duncanville!!!

I think you're exactly right about Duncanville, Arlington, and Bowie fighting for 3rd and 4th. Arlington travels to Duncanville this week and a win there goes a long way towards securing a spot in the top 4. A loss there makes the Bowie game the next week almost a must-win for tie-breaking purposes.

Kickem,
For me, cheering against anyone in our district is hard to do.... I have close friends in the Lamar family and many alumni I know (as well as designing the football website), I have former BHS classmate on coaching staff at Arlington, I cheered for and lived in the Sam Houston zone prior to the re-opening of Bowie, my wife graduated from Cedar Hill, and my soon to be sister n law was a two sport star at Duncanville. And even though I would want Martin to lose versus ANYONE, I still have connections there in the form of a half dozen former BHS coaches who were at BHS in the 90s. And at Desoto, I have a very close friend who teaches there.
The realization that one of Lamar's own products (Coach Perry) lead Bowie down the road of victory against Lamar is interesting in itself. But there are 3 people who I want to single out on staff at Bowie for their part in this victory:
1. Jeff Kemp - BHS football player and alum from Old Bowie who is now the First Assistant for Kenny Perry. Kemp spent 5 seasons at Lamar after being at the new Bowie from 91-2000. He is the embodiment of what Crossing the Line is all about.
2. Coach Sammy Epps - Has been coaching either freshmen, varisty, or jv at Bowie through Stovall, Criss, and Perry's coaching staffs. Long the model of consistency, especially with his Track program, that directly benefits the football programs speed.
3. Coach Roy Rudewick - Head Athletic Trainer - This guy, along with Epps, and Kemp, has been on the wrong side of blowout losses to Lamar too many times. I have never seen a better athletic trainer. And to see him get so excited Friday night was a charm.
I feel like the football program aboslutely won this for the team and school first, but in so doing, they have vanquished Bowie's greatest adversary and relieved 23 years of frustration.

Congrats on the big win. It dont hurt any thing when your coach has the opposing coach's play book.
Give this Dude some 'HATERADE'. once again congrats on a well deserved win Bowie. I hope to see you in the playoffs.
Anyone know if the Sears(sp) kid got his clearance to play yet?
I want to see what he's got, I have heard some good things about him.

Sears has a broken bone in his foot and is out for the season, unless Bowie made a deep playoff run (unlikely given potential first round opponents if Bowie made it). But even if he was healed up, he may find his old position belongs to someone else now.
Nothing against Sears, but Christian Mathews is pretty well established now as BHS's qb, and he looks to have that position wrapped up for the next 2 years, given that he is only a sophomore. Also, Mathews is on track right now to have a bigger season in his sophomore year than Sherrod Harris did in his. That is something to chew on....
