This past weekend, Evangel Christian had 3 fomer players get drafted by NFL teams in Jonathan Wade from Tennennsee to the St. Louis Rams, Keyunta Dawson from Texas Tech to the Indianapolis Colts, and Chase Pittman to the Cleveland Browns. Chad Johnson signed today to the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent and he played for the Texas Tech Red Raiders before transferring to NSU. My question is what is the record for a high school to have 4 players sign from the same high school in a particular year? This doesn't count that Josh Booty signed with Oakland Raiders as a free agent back in Feb and that Brock Berlin signed with the Dallas Cowboys last week. That is two players from another time even though Brock as a senior played with Wade, Dawson, and Pittman back in 99. Whom knows the record for that?
First thought that came to my mind would be the Long Beach Poly class of Winston Justice, Manuel Wright, Darnell Bing, Hershel Dennis, Mercedes Lewis. Not sure they all went in the same class to the NFL, but they were the same HS class. In about 4 years you can watch for this year's Miami Northwestern group to make a run at it (Aldarius Johnson, Tommy Streeter, Brandon Washington, Terrell Killings, Ben Jones, Marcus Forston, Sean Spence, Jacory Harris).
Dallas Carter had Clifton Abraham, Jessie Armstead, Greg Hill, and Leshai Maston on their team in 88, all of whom went on to play in the NFL (not sure they all went the same year though, again... should have also had Derrick Evans and Gary Edwards ).

Thanks for the answer. I am sure there are more around the country than I realize. I am just proud for these kids and their accomplishments as I know most of them personally except for Josh and Johnthan. I know it is big news for us coming out of Shreveport.First thought that came to my mind would be the Long Beach Poly class of Winston Justice, Manuel Wright, Darnell Bing, Hershel Dennis, Mercedes Lewis. Kathleen H.S. in Lakeland, Fl had an impressive run from 92-95. Ray Lewis (LB, Ravens), Desmond Clark (TE, Bears), Freddie Mtichell (WR, Eagles) and Paul Edinger (K, Bears) all came through the school.

Dennis is still at USC. Probably won't make it to the NFL, but if you count free-agent contracts that may not even involve making a roster, I suppose he could make it.
Was Herschel Dennis not the starting running back and was demoted after fumbling at the goal line against Cal. Reggie Bush and the big rb from Colorado took over then. Dennis had a knee injury and had some legal issues that were dropped. Check me on all of that but it seems he got some bad breaks.

Well, Dennis was primarily demoted because Bush and Lendale White were just too good to keep off the field. The fumble against Cal didn't help, but obvioulsy he had mega talent in front of him. The legal issues didn't really harm him on the field in the long run, but the injuries certainly have. With all of the soph. RB's hurt the last half of spring practice and none of the freshman on campus, Dennis thrived. He may see a good bit of playing time this year, but all the sophs and freshmen will have something to say in the Fall.
Still, to address the original post, the quality of career production of the other four Poly players has been excellent thus far.

Derrick Evans signed with Tenn., never played a down because he went to jail!

Did Evangel have a superstar get in some serious trouble? Is that what you are referring to Oak Tree? Give us the info.

Derrick Evans and Gary Edwards were two more players from the infamous 1988 Dallas Carter team who had NFL talent but ended up in the slammer for armed robbery. Evans had signed with Tennessee and Edwards with Houston. Armstead was quoted as suggesting that Evans would have been a top 10 pick and Edwards was a 2nd round guy. Of course, Armstead was one of the best defensive players in Texas HS football history, went to Miami, and on to the NFL. Clifton Abraham was a star at Florida State, Greg Hill was a star at Texas A&M, and Leshai Maston was awesome at Baylor before they headed to the NFL.

Injuries are what kept Dennis out all of this time. I believe he may have been held out the first two games of 2004 until being cleared of wrongdoing, which could have set him back a tad in competition with Bush and White. But injuries have been what has kept him out as we can assume he simply was no0t as good as Thunder or Lightning.
Thunder and Lightning were pretty impressive to say the least.

Hello Rockdale,Too bad ECA isn't pumping out that kind of talent anymore.
We have a couple of seniors that is on everyone's radar screen. A wide receiver that is named Roderick Banks and a SS named Zach Summage. We have three bubble guys that are going to get looks in Deleon Moss a inside slot WR, a defensive tackle in Eric Waterfallen, and a offensive tackle in Blaine Russ. With a good year they may be taken. Our junior class is the one that everyone is excited about. Our running back named Cederrick Tyson was the MVP of the state title game two years ago as a freshmen and MVP of the state in our classification last year. Quinn Giles is a FS/WR that is a very special athlete that can be a difference maker. Trey Wilson has great speed and great talent at corner. I have to include Ray Johnson in this list, his first year of football was last year but he is so athletic plus when he gets there as a LB, folks know it. He is the prototyple body of what ones wants a fast LB to be but he is playing baseball on a high level plus is one of these that plays on a select team during the summer. Blake Cogswell is a huge NG that has been starting every year since he was in fifth grade for whatever team he has played on, elementary, MS, freshmen, and varsity. Has big hands and knows how to close the hole. Make a heck of a play last year in the state title game when St. John's RB burst though and he caught him 60 yards downfield by taking a angle. We still have a few that we are pumping out to the colleges, now taking the next step is going to have taken care of in their college careers.

I don't know if Gary would of played in the NFL. He was about 5-8 170lbs. He signed with U of Houston and I believe I heard he tried playing some JUCO ball after serving his time.
I think Deric would of become a Lawrence Taylor like LB at UT. No way he would of stayed a CB. I still cringe when he did that hot tub interview on the news. Ehhh...he would of fd up in college somehow. It just a matter of time before he really screwed up.

You might be right. Armstead said he thought he would have eventually been a 2nd round type pick, but maybe he was just saying that because he was his buddy. Either way, tragic waste of potential.
