Why? Because those teams contacted DLS and put up the money to fund the travel! This isn't rocket science fellas. Try to keep up. (Is there anybody out there who has actually GRADUATED from one of these Texas high schools where football runs the show.....?)Why Washington though? Why Hawaii? Come to Texas. Go to Florida.......... why play weak teams from Washington or Hawaii? The money is defintely here in Texas.
Texas vs DLS, Ohio and the rest of the USA

If you want to argue about money, I bet De La salle and their $9,200 tuition fee help a little bit.DLS is a private school run by the Christian Brothers, who take a vow of poverty. They are a teaching order. Their lay teachers are paid less than their public school counterparts. The assumption that DLS can somehow afford the trip because they are private is laughable. Their football stadium holds only 3,000. Texas posters claim that their stadiums hold 20,000+. How much for a game, $5/head? That makes a $100K payday for a single game - assume split w/ opponent? Either way, they've got much more to play with than DLS. Recent DLS games requiring major travel have been paid for by a] the event (such as the Hawaii Classic, or the Emerald Classic in Seattle this year), or b] ESPN (ECA).Since DLS is the "champion", mythical though it may be, I would consider Texas to be the "challenger". Normally I would consider this to mean that the Teaxas team needs to initiate the game and probably go to them. However, in this case there is another issue. DLS is a private school and should be much more able to afford the costs (travel, etc.) than a Texas public school.

Wow, that's impressive. And YOU'RE saying that it's the small private school that has the money to fund a trip to Texas. Looks like you're the ones with all the money. Some might question the priorities though. You ladies will never get it.Waco High's Football Stadium.....
Temple Wildcat Stadium.....(stadium is so high they have the blue warning lights for airplanes on it)

read the quote below...Thank you!Stadium size and fan noise does something to do with it. Imagine a 300 member band playing a certain song while you are on offense as loud as they can with the fans yelling as loud as they can 20,000 to 30,000 people.

These steriotypical comments are clearly a shot at us. To my knowledge, there are no Billy Joes, Jethros or Sheriffs on this board. I'm sure there are many who have Cowboy hats, but that's a different story. These comments are uncalled for & disrespectful.
"A team hasn't lost in 12 years, and only 14 times in 25 years, and an entire board of Texans is gonna say they know of X number of Texas teams that would beat DLS."
Message Boards are all about giving ones opinion. Why do you have a problem with that? I don't remember anyone on here saying they "know for a fact", so we are just expressing our opinions.
"oh they don't cut it because they haven't played in Texas". No disrespect towards DLS there right?
That's our story & we're stickin' to it. How is that disrespect?
Well let me remind you that as good a state as Texas is, there is no doubt that California too is one the very best...
No disagreement there.
DLS dominates that state.
Well, the Northern half anyway. Cali doesn't have an state championship do they? From what I understand, Cali breaks it into regions and does not have a Statewide Championship. Correct me if I am wrong.
Now you can argue the best state all you want but it can't really be proven.
True.
The best we can really say is Florida, Texas and California are the three best. I think most would agree with that.
We all agree on that.
I mean could say those Texas state championships mean nothing because none of those teams had to play De La Salle? I could say that.
But you would be wrong.
Since DLS never loses, my point would hold more water.
To you maybe.
But its a dumb thing to say.
Exactly.
Why would I expect a Texas team have to prove itself in California? They don't. I can speak to personal experience, and in my personal experience the Texas all stars came to California boasting about how they were gonna teach California a "texas football lesson" (samething Louisiana, Southern Cal, and Hawaii said to DLS by the way) and then they got whipped. Each year they promised to come back the following year with their best and they lost again. Finally you guys made some changes and allowed your "best" to show up and you still lost two out of three.
Since I don't know anything about that, I'll let others comment on that.
That plus I saw Shore play this year and the DLS line would blow them off the ball.
I doubt you guys really know that much about DLS.
We'll never know.
Its the coach guys. Thats it, its that simple.
You may have seen me mention the respect I had for the Coach in my previous post.
Enough for now. None of you know how Texas would do against DLS, nor do I know how DLS would do against Texas.
Exactly.
You guys are sport fans right? You'de think you'de want to learn about this legendary team instead of just dismissing them. You are missing something special.
That's you'd, not you'de. Cali needs better schoolin'. I can only speak for myself here. I have never seen DLS on TV or in person. I'm not obsessed with them like you are.

Here's the quote out the Shreveport times... "Coming into the game, on film they didn't look like anything special. It looked like they were playing rinky-dink teams," Eagles quarterback Denny Rodney Duron said. "But they make teams look rinky-dink. They're the best I've ever played. They kicked our tail in every level of the game. They're a great football team."Go look at the yardage dude....ECA did hold their own. There wasn't even a big lead until late in the game.
You must be joking. DLS dominated the game, save the brief 3-point lead that ECA took off a muffed punt return at the beginning of the game. It was over by halftime. ESPN commentators at halftime raving at how DLS is driving ECA linemen (much bigger linemen, have you) 5 yards off the LOS. DLS leads by 24 through most of 4th qtr, and takes a knee for final 2 minutes of game at ECA 1 yd line, otherwise score would have been 34-10. ECA held their own? You must have been watching the ECA-Lonview game, where ECA led thru 3 Qtrs.ECA wasn't even at their peak and still held their own against DLS.
Longview played in Louisiana with Louisiana officials. That is the only reason ECA led the game.
“We didn’t always adjust to (Louisiana) Federation rules,” said Collins. One of the differences is a team in Texas can return an intercepted pass on a two-point conversion for two points. Lobo linebacker Robert Henson intercepted a two-point pass attempt by Evangel and ran it back for the apparent score.
Longview still beat Evangel by a larger margin than DLS did if you want to play that card.
Wow, they had already played Longview. Hmmm, but he thinks that DLS is better? ECA held their own? Should inform their QB - he seems to think that they got their tail kicked.
Do you guys just make this stuff up?
Please, do tell me more about how Texas big stadiums will defeat DLS. Spare me the rhetoric (look it up kids). EVERY WEEK that DLS plays is the biggest game of the lives of the kids that they play. You guys are really beginning to bore me.

Also, you keep commenting on Longview. Might I remind you, the Lobos lost in the first round of the playoofs in texas. They are still a great team, but no where near many teams in Texas.

AHHHHH...., That would explain it. You should go back to watching Varsity Blues - you're too young to even understand that there is a world outside of Texas.I go to one right now, and grew up with the team, so have hundreds of other posters on this site.(Is there anybody out there who has actually GRADUATED from one of these Texas high schools where football runs the show.....?)
Technically this is a high quality site. More bells & whistles than I've seen anywhere. Compliments to the moderator. I'll look for the day when there are actual adults posting here.
You have your fun kids. Yes, the world does revolve around Texas - at least in your mind.
Good night.

First of all, if ESPN wanted to get the feel of a real HS game, they should come to Texas.Attendance at the ECA game was 8,000, due to ESPN requirements to play at a local JuCo rather than at Cal Berkeley where they could have drawn much more.
Second of all, if 8,000 max is all ESPN wants in their HS football games, I guess they will NEVER come to Texas.

I am interested about the type of offense and defense that they run and the types of plays and or stunts.
What are the current team's states. Height, weight, or 40 speed? Are there any films of them out on the web?
Now I can see the banter on both sides and I can say, the record is impressive. There is no doubt about that. I can also say that considering most all stars, a 2A state champ I feel could beat the 5A all stars simply because they work as a team.
What I am saying is tell us more about the team, records speak loudly, but I take National Rankings and such the same as I do with the Tooth Fairy. My (Cowboy Hat) is off to the team for what they have achieved.
I think that instead of playing allstars in any bracket that it should be the Champion in the class that would match that of the school there in cali. But all is moot in the point that it will not happen this year, so I just say good luck to them, may their streak continue.
I still think we could take you though.

First of all, I have only seen DLS play one game and it was the ECA game on ESPN last year.
Here is what I think. And please read my entire comment before jumping to any judgement.
DLS is a very well coached, very disiciplined football team that has done something no other football team in the US has before them. DLS has many talented football players that will play D1 football across the country. DLS has a great tradition in the making, and they obviously have some fantastic fans.
Texas has some very well coached football teams that play very disciplined ball as well. Texas has great football players that play D1 ball across the country every year too. Texas is rich in tradition when it comes to friday night, and we have great fans too.
Here is the difference.
Texas highschool football and California highschool football are two completley different animals. The coaches, the players, the fans, and the traditions, are pretty much the same, but the systems cannot compare. Simply put, if DLS had to play 16 games in a season with 6 of those games being against the best of the best in any given year across the entire state of California, there is a good chance they would not enjoy the streak that they currently hold. In Texas a team that goes undefeated in regular season [10 games] has to advance 5 or 6 more times to be crowned champion, and with the enormous amount of talent across the state, to do this for 12 years in a row would be next to impossible. As a matter of fact only two teams in the history of Texas football have managed to do it 4 years in a row.
What I am trying to say is this. I can say without a shadow of doubt in my heart, that DLS would not hold that streak if their school were sitting in Dallas or Houston instead of Northern California, simply because of our playoff system. That does not mean that DLS could not beat several Texas football teams, it simply is the reason I think the "streak" doesn't hold the validity in Texas that it holds in California.
Now for the match-up head to head.
I think if DLS had to play a top level Texas Public Highschool team using NCAA rules and referees in a neutral site ie: Mile High in Denver, that DLS would have their hands full. I think DLS would play a great game, and they might even win in a SINGLE head to head competition, but if DLS had to play the top 100 Texas teams over the next 10 years in the same fashion they would be lucky to win half of them.
I for one would pay 100 bucks for the ticket to Mile High and I promise you that we could sell out the stadium, if De La Salle were to accept a challenge from any Texas highschool team to play the game, but I don't see them willing to take a chance as long as their streak is in tact. And that isn't braggin, that is just the truth.
Good luck to DLS in 2004, but at the risk of sounding bold, "your little streak don't mean nuttin to us red-neck dumbass backwood Texas boys...we don't wear sandles on the football field like them fairies out in San Fransisco.."
