Commish runs away and no one else has server access or tech support abilities it seems, need a group of 3-4 set to run the site so this doesn't happen.

Seems if commish's CC ever expired the site may get deleted forever along with years of history.

None of us have any clue what happened yet. I do think it is a good idea that 3 or 4 administrators are given the access to run the site in the Commish's absence . It has grown into a pretty big job for one man to have to do by himself, and I know a lot of us would chip to keep the site updated and current , just like we all did during the porn crisis a few months back..But that is his call and his alone. It would be a shame if something severe happened and the site was deleted.

I was not getting on the Commish. I think he has done a great job with this site over the years. This is THE best site in Texas for High school ball and all of that is due to his hard work. I just think that sharing the load would be benificial to him and the site . I will do anything I can , as I am sure many on this site would . I am not aware that he relayed that message to any Mod, but I will say if he does need a break I and many of the other people on the moderating team would be more than happy to do whatever he ask of us.

I was basically saying the same thing, not trying to pin it all on him and all.

If he's needing to take some time off let someone know, give someone the responsibility to contact the host and authority to make support requests, it will keep the site traffic going and not kill it off.

I know I sought out and found alternative sites with such a extended outage.

Commish isn't interested in sharing 100% power and authority of his site. A group of back-up admin's to fix any problems is out of the question.

I think saying such is wrong unless you know that first hand.

He's spent years and probably multiple 1000's on the site in hosting maybe he's gotten some back in ads, but I am sure he doesn't want to see it go away, wen it is down it is as good was gone. It loses a lot of traffic, maintaining traffic is an important part of keeping a community.

I understand there can be power struggles and such on sites and I'd recommend setting out the parameters on paper for what can/cannot be done and have all to sign it as a contract. It is not about sharing ownership OR control, it is about keeping the community alive and thriving.

NO one is saying he should share power. All I am saying is that if he needs held doing something that we all are more than happy to do whatever he needs.

What?

We just want him to let ONE person know when he's going to disappear for months at a time...and when he is going to disappear for months, if he wants to be able to comeback to a working website, he certainly needs to share a little bit of that power.

Guy has always promised a lot. Never got anything done. His board was hopping...it's not any longer. We need to figure something out, otherwhise the board will go away forever at some point.

jcisco (and others)

Mods & Admins had no clue what was going on, and still don't. We are all powerless to do anything when the board goes down, and unless/until Commish makes other arrangements or shares the load as far as making sure it stays up & running, we will remain in the same situation in the future, unfortunately.

I do know first hand. I've met with him in person and did stats at the Oil Bowl a few years back, LoboFan07 was there too and can attest to this. Regardless, the cause for the boards going down was an IPB driver error that somehow fixed itself. It's doubtful it was anyone on THSF's fault or doing.

MySQL errors don't fix themselves typically, it is more likely some staff at the host noticed the site down after a week and did a table repair, a 30 second task.
If someone had ACCESS to request a fix it could have been down for mere minutes to hours.

Yes, you are correct. He doesn't run this board off his own servers last time I checked. He bought a package through IPB and they maintain the forum using their servers, the site is simply linked to it. They are the ones who fixed the problem, which is what I meant by "fixed itself".

And someone said above that no one should share HIS power, but there are Administrators who can do things such as ban, create forums, and even shut the forum down. I used to be one, but I couldn't devote enough time to it back in the day when the site was booming.

It's simple. If you don't show up to your site for months at a time, you give power to someone else for the interim...it is real simple.
