FRISCO, Texas - The party started with a #18 Tom Train power play goal that made the score 4-1 over the Bismarck Bobcats, and the rest is history... For the first time in the 5-year history of the Texas Tornado franchise, they are now called Junior A Hockey National Champions. With a 4-1 win, the Texas Tornado completed a dream season in which they won a record 48 games and won every championship possible. Fittingly, Tornado forward #13 Luke Flicek began the scoring just three minutes into the game. His goal was the 5th of the championships, which led all tournament scorers. #18 Tom Train and #7 Mike Salens would increase the lead to 3-1 after two periods of play and the celebration was on in front of over 3,000 screaming Tornado fans. Train would add his 2nd of the game to make it 4-1 and from there Tornado goaltender #30 Scott Talbot would shut the door on the Bobcats to give the Texas Tornado their first National Championship. The win completed a dream season in which the Tornado won an amazing 48 regular season games, and an additional 7 games in the Texas Cup, 6 games in the Newmarket Junior A Showcase and 10 straight playoff games for a total of 71 wins. After their home loss on March 6th, the Tornado did not lose another game going a perfect 18-0-0 since that loss.
