The NCAA found it fit to suspend Dez Bryant for 1 calander year for having dinner with Deion Sanders at his home, then lying about it, and have yet to come down on Brandon Spikes for trying to gouge the eyes out of the Georgia football player. I guess they are going to stand by Urban Myers' half-a-game suspention. The suspenion will take place against Vandy, no less.
I thought Meyer had a backbone and was a fairly tough guy when it came to things like this, but he proved to care more about wins/losses than class within his team, and decency within his program.
The NCAA's process of gauging punishments needs to be reworked. On the other hand, it maybe because of which schools were involved, IDK? Like the media, they would do anything for Tasha and the rest of the Gators to repeat as NC's.

I know we're operating within the context of Oakflat being a Big 12 lover and Florida hater....but...these are two very different situations. Bryant toed the line of violating his amateur status and then proceeded to lie to the NCAA about what he did. Brandon Spikes did something that happens at the bottom of piles all the time in football. Georgia had done the same sh*t to Florida guys when they were down. It was just bad luck for Spikes that the camera had a direct view of him in that case. There's a reason why nobody from Georgia-be it on the field following the paly or any time after-has expressed any sort of outrage over what happened. Dirty stuff like that happens all the time in football. Even the saintly De La Salle Spartans of coach Bob Ladocuer were caught on camera smashing a Lakeland player's head into the turf after a play. The only punishment handed down on that play was to the Lakeland player for complaining vociferously about it. LOL

it's always the second guy that gets caught. sometimes in sports...or even everyday life... people have to learn not to retaliate and keep a cool head. it's always happened this way. remember the world cup headbutt...what about last week in the green bay vs. minny game where that guy got shoved, but headbutted the guy in retaliation. it extended 3 points into 7 points. sometimes being smart can go a long way. and clearly spikes lost his head there.
in the scope of this conversation....Dez Bryant and spikes are apples and oranges literally. Florida handled spikes internally and had they not then the NCAA may have felt the need to step in. But I think just like any other faction....punishments should always be handled at the lowest level if possible. Dez Bryant's issues were unfortunate and unique. do not lie to NCAA officials...
there should never be a set way to handle punishments black and white. there has to be some gray area so that there is some flexibility in punishment. that way people don't get hammered for every single violation or offense if it is not appropriate. you don't want a guy who makes a one time mistake to get hammered like bryant did if he doesn't have to. spikes doesn't deserve that type of punishment unless he continues this type of behavior in the future.
