1A=SP

3A=Parkview Baptist
4A=Lutcher
5A=West Monroe

Baton Rouge Central and Hahnville in 5A are very good though if West Monroe should slip up like they have last couple years...

Ohio
D1 Cleveland Glenville
D2 Cincinnati Winton Woods
D3 Youngstown Mooney
D4 Kettering Alter
D5 Coldwater
D6 Mogadore

Better prediction will be that I will go 0-6. :shock2:

I’m getting these in a little late, but last night didn’t affect my picks. I have a few upsets along the way, but nothing major. Assuming there is no “rebracketing”, here are my picks:

OHIO
DI: St. Ignatius beats Dublin Coffman
DII: Logan beats Toledo St. Francis DeSales
DIII: Youngstown Cardinal Mooney beats Dover
DIV: Kettering Alter beats Genoa Area
DV: Youngstown Ursuline beats Coldwater
DVI: Delphos St. Johns beats Malvern

My prediction for the watered down Texas playoffs:

5A D1 Hightower over The Woodlands
5A D2 Allen over Katy
4A D1 Lake Travis over Highland Park
4A D2 Aledo over Schertz Clemens
3A D1 Gilmer over Prosper
3A D2 Giddings over Argyle
2A D1 Kirbyville over Pilot Point
2A D2 Dangerfield over Bushland
1A D1 Canadian over Shiner
1A D2 Stratford over Cayuga

I'll be lucky to get 5 out of 10!

5A-D2 has Lufkin, Allen, Tyler, Carroll, Katy, and Cedar Hill vying for the championship. The rest are just looking to advance for a couple of rounds.

5A-D1 has Trinity, Skyline, The Woodlands, Cinco Ranch, and Hightower(Maybe RRSP, but they have no passing game so I can't include them).

It is watered down. Not weak, but far from what it could be if there was only one champion. Still tough to win though.

Slc vs Allen in week 2 is gonna be huge..

Well its always gonna be watered down for a couple of weeks til the patsys get out of the way.. And dont forget about Abilene.. I think Allen vs Katy for state in div 2(toss up)

And dont forget about Stoney Point , Northshore,Katy Cinco, Westlake , Judson, Desoto.
I think Trinity or the Woodlands gets beat by High tower for the state in div 1

The reason I say its watered down is because there are 10 state championsions in 5 classes. Thats just plain dumb. I've never been a fan of the current format. Its not about the quality of teams. Theres no reason why Texas can't have an extra week at the end and matchup the D1 and D2 champions to have a real state champ. If Hightower and Allen both win state in their respective divisions, how in the heck do you tell who the true state champion is. Either have 10 classes, or play an extra week.

If we had just one division per class, think of all the great teams in each bracket. Its already tough to win it all, but imagine having to defeat everyone in your whole class, not just half of them. 5A would have Allen, Trinity, Skyline, Desoto, Cedar Hill, TJT, SLC, Abilene, The Woodlands, Hightower, GPNS, Katy, Cinco Ranch, Lufkin, RRSP, teams like Klein Collins, Klein Forest, or some of the San Antonio schools that are surprisingly good on occasion. That would be by far the best playoff system in the nation. As for now, its the not the worst, just the dumbest.

With as many teams as there are in 5a they could easily make a 5a and 6a but that makes travel during disrict alot tougher. So who cares if they call it 5a 1 and 2 or 5a and 6a..

SP will run into Varnado in the second round and have their hands full and may get upset.

Well get ready cause they're making the more classes move now down on the lower ends with predetermined Division I and Division II teams in 2A next season. I have no doubt that it'll happen in the high end classes as well soon after. They might not call it 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A and just stick to Division I Division II. But in all reality, it'll be that.

Allen in Division II completely destroyed the point of having two divisions.

It was hard for me to pick against Longview, but I think they will be upset in the quarters by either Highland Park or Waxahachie. Longview's region is pretty tough with those two along with Texas High and Hewitt Midway. That whole division is tough whehn you include the region 1 schools. Should be a good playoff bracket.

I wish I could say the same thing about Katy's region. Everyone knows I'm a big Katy fan. No affliation with the school just a fan of their style of football and tradition, but their region is a joke. You can argue that their regular season with (GPNS, The Woodlands, Bellevue, FM Marcus, West Brook, and Cinco Ranch is much tougher than their playoff bracket until the semi's. Here's a sample of who they might play.

Stratford 8-2
Houston Chavez 7-3
PA Memorial 6-4
LaPorte 6-3
FB Willowridge 5-5
Dickinson 6-4
Baytown Lee 3-7
Houston Madison 6-3
Kingwood 5-5
Katy Seven Lakes 4-6

There are some decent teams like:

Humble Atascocita 9-1
Pasadena Memorial 8-2
FB Elkins 8-2
Clear Springs 8-2

but no one should really test them.

Thats why the Texas playoff system is watered down. Some of those schools have no business being in the playoffs with a 3-7 and 4-6 record.

Like Steeler said, its still hard to win it all, but one unified champion would be much better. With one division, instead of two Katy would be in the same region as Cinco Ranch, Hightower, GPNS, and Pearland. That would be a much tougher and more respectful road to state.

I definitely think Division I 4A is one of the tougher in Texas this season, but I just think Highland Park is severely overrated. They aren't what they were when Stafford was there, obviously. The one team they had to chance they were as good of a team as people thought, they completely got blown out in.

Maybe they'll upset Waxahachie, but I can't see it. Even if they do get past Waxahachie and Longview (which I don't think they would be able to do if they did play us, unless we had several several turnovers), I would bet the house they wouldn't get past Guyer, Ryan, or Cooper out of Region I.

Even if the Katy region is watered down they will go thru just as tough as a playof run as STA in Fl will go thru and on top of that Katy probably will have a much tougher oppontent for state if they make it..

I think you're the only one that believes that. Katy's region is always a joke, and a lot easier than STA's path to the finals. STA before the finals could face Venice(#10 in the state) or Manatee(#16 in the state), and Ely(#23 in the state). Katy most likely will not face a top 25 team in the state of Texas before the semi's.

Texas 4A has several 2-8 teams that made the playoffs...I'm pretty sure though those 2-8 teams would wear out most teams in other state's playoffs... :closedeyes:

From the current 5atexasfootball rankings only Reagan is ranked in the top 25, and Katy would meet them in the semi's. Talk about a tough route to go through. :closedeyes:
