The Petrolia Pirates, under 1st year head coach Chris McWilliams, secured a playoff berth tonight in the always tough district 9-A by handing District Champ Munday its first district loss. Petrolia finished the season 4-6, but went 3-2 in district, with wins over Electra, Windthorst, and Munday. Petrolia was 1-9 a year ago, and reaches the playoffs for the fist time since the 2003 season. Congratulations Pirates!

Petrolia Pirates are Army Strong 1A Team of Week 10.
Petrolia's playoff hopes appeared slim Friday night, with the Pirates needing an upset of district champion Munday to reach the postseason.
Petrolia's Roman Wilson kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired to give his team a 28-25 victory.
First-year coach Chris McWilliams took a Petrolia team that went 1-9 a year ago and turned them into a playoff team. Petrolia was only 1-4 in non-district play but won three District 9-1A games to finish the regular season 4-6 overall, 3-2 in district play.
