Most of Texas believes Gp Northshore was in aleague of their own in 03.. Your looking like fool to try and prove different.

I'd say they passed up 1985 Yates as the #1 Texas team and may still be #1 although there've been a few more great teams since 2003 -- 2005,2006 SLC,2007 Katy & 2009 Abilene; however I don't believe they were exactly in a league of their own in 2003. Katy & SLC would have given them a good game -- much better than The Woodlands did. GPNS didn't look like they were giving 100% effort in that game and maybe trying to hold the score down; especially in the 2nd half. They had the State Championship wrapped up and that's all that mattered. If they had gone all out and won like 40-7 they might have received more consideration for being #1 that year but I doubt it. DLS was #1 in everyone's minds and justifiably so considering they had won 151 games in a row. So nothing was going to change the oppinion of the pollsters; but GPNS wasn't far behind that year; and very well might be Texas's best team of all time. They would have given DLS all they could handle.

I dont think they would have ranked GP Northshore #1 because they never will put a team that knocked off the top team at the top unless the they were already ranked #2. When I say they were in a league of there on Im talking in texas.. Even though I believe they could play or beat any body that year.

And on another note this year if Katy would have had their starting qb they might have had their offense on the field long enough to have beaten Abilene.

My trip was great... I had a blast. I met some great people. Went to City Streets (Indigo and Cages).. Everything closes early out there though that's my only complaint.

There were 3 polls back then --- PREPNATION,NSNS out of Arizona & USA Today. Aldine was #1 in the PREPNATION poll. Ruston,La was #1 in the NSNS & a team from Oklahoma was #1 in the USA Today. It's my opinion that Ruston was the best team.

No question Aldine with Strayhan kicks any teams a**. Ruston was probably better than Lawton Ok though!

Aldine 13 Elsik 5
Aldine 30 Houston Washington 26
Aldine 24 Humble Kingswood 21

Aldine had 3 very close games in 90. They could have been the best team in the nation, but to think they'd kick every teams **** in 90 is absurd. Seeing as how they barely beat these 3 teams.

I watched that game on TV. It started off like it was going to be a defensive battle with Yates up 3-0 then scoring just before the half for a 10-0 lead. Then they blew it open in the 2nd half scoring 2 TD's in the 3rd & the 4th Qtr. "This really is a great team" quoted the commentator after the game while analyzing their season stats as well as what they had just done to Odessa Permian. A local sportscaster made almost the identical quotation in late season after Yates had just beaten a local team something like 70-0.

Yates had two close games that season against the same team. I forget the name of that team, but both games were decided by a td or less if I remember correctly.

Houston Yates 13 Houston Jones 6
Houston Yates 21 Houston Jones 15

Houston Yates posted something like 9 shut outs that year though. Their next closest games were 13 point W's over West Orange Stark and Houston Madison.

Dan Ray Hooks, West Orange Stark's longtime head coach has said that the 85 Yates team was the best he has ever seen in 40+ years of coaching. WO-S was very good in 85, and was beat pretty soundly despite only losing by 13. They went on to win state in 86 and 87, with longtime Dallas Cowboy, Kevin Smith on the team. They went on to lost the state title game in 88.

I can't comment one way or the other though, I was only 7 in 85, and have no idea how good they were. I've just read articles.

It makes you wonder though. Houston Yates of the 80's, as well as Dallas Carter of the 80's had some really special teams, and perennial title contenders. Some of those teams are considered the best of all time. Both schools still have the talent, but only a fraction of the success, and nothing close to a state title. Any HISD, or DISD schools for that matter.

I don't know the reason, but I think alot of it has to do with the kids not being disciplined like they use to be. You can't coach the kids as hard, and ride the kids as hard as in the past, and the less structured, less disciplined schools suffer from it the most. Just my opinion though.

What you play 16 games and you dont allow for close games even if they are rivals. They went to state 2 yrs in a row first losing to Permian the first yr and the second beating nationaly ranked Lamar.and was RANKED #1 in nation, somebody thought they were good.

I don't think I said Aldine wasn't good, but I know they wouldn't destroy everyone like you stated earlier.

You got three seasons 1 Preseason 2 regular 3 playoffs and when your in season 3 your all grown up and your playing against the best almost weekly. Screw all that. If they go undefeated here they probably go undefeated anywhere..

Who said Aldine wasn't good? Lamarfan stated they would've blown out any team, because of Strahan, but they squeeked by 3 teams in Texas that all had multiple losses.

Of the three teams I mentioned, only Houston Washington was in the playoffs.

And as far as if they go undefeated in Texas they probably go undefeated anywhere else maybe, but they won't destroy everyone else like you stated.

Did you know that 5 teams got to 21 on Aldine that year?

Most of those games were complete blowouts when a team score 21 on them. Only two times the whole year were those games close one at the beginning of the yr against I think Kingwood and one in the playoffs against Washington.
I also noticed The Usa today never put a Texas team #1 back in the old days even while other rankers did.. it looks a they were a little biased and no wonder some of the northern states thought they were better because Usa today said so. I guarantee the Texas teams were just as dominant back then.. Those rankings were mostly garbage back then.

Dont put too much stock into that stat though. For a long long time, only 1 team out of each district even made the playoffs. I don't know if by 85 or 86 they had went to the 2 team in each district format, but it was somethime around there. There were lots of good teams in the 80's that didn't go to the playoffs with 9-1 or 8-2 records. Nowadays teams go with 3-7 records. 4 teams in each district is too many, and 1 is just not fair. I personally like the 3 teams going, but it leaves you with odd numbers in the playoffs.
