No. 5 on this list of all-time best Texas teams. Obviously, that's incorrect.

http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=874797

You can take that RIVALS ranking with a grain of salt. No way 1973 Tyler is the best Texas HS football team ever. They weren't even the best of the 70's behind 1978 Houston Stratford & 1979 Temple. I liked Earl Campbell but he carried the ball on almost every play. Austin Reagan couldn't stop him on that game winning drive (21-14) in the finals; but how many other teams wouldn't have even been in that situation. I think the top 6 teams of this decade are: 2000 Katy 2003 Galena Park North Shore 2005 SLC 2006 SLC 2007 Katy & 2009 Abilene. All these teams would have destroyed the 1973 Tyler team. The 80's teams are: 1984 Odessa Permian 1985 Houston Yates 1987 Plano 1989 Odessa Permian (I omit 1988 Dallas Carter because they forfeited their title - they shouldn't be considered). 90's teams are: 1990 Aldine 1991 Odessa Permian 1992 Temple 1994 Tyler John Tyler 1996 Lewisville & Austin Westlake. 1997 FM Marcus was awesome in the playoffs; but they went 14-2 with 2 early season losses. After Midland's Lee's disaster against West Monroe in 2000 they shouldn't even be considered. Some of the best teams nationally are: 1976 Cincinnati Moeller,Oh., 1986 Valdosta,Ga., 1996 Hampton,Va., 1999 DLS, 2000 DLS, 2001 DLS, 2002 DLS, 2003 DLS, 2004 Cincinnati Colerain,Oh. 2008 St. Thomas Aquinas,Fl.

2005 Lakeland. 2006 MNW, even though they did not win any Mythical National Title, wait Lakeland 2005 did in some polls. Those teams were better than the year that followed.

Last years STA team was very good.

1994 Miami Southridge (totally unstoppable). 2004 Armwood.

Maurice Drew Jones or Maurice Drew?

Not on that team. He was on the 2001 and 2002 teams. DLS's 2001 team is probably their 2nd or 3rd best team.

I will always compare any team to the 2004 Colerain team. Teams could celebrate if they got on first down on that defense. You can pretty much forget about running the ball on that defense which a lot of teams did. Their option game was salty as well. Warren Central of Indianapolis ran the option like they invented it back in 2003. I watched DLS come to Ohio and dismantle Elder. That wasn't one of their talented teams so I can only imagine what they would look like in the late 90's and early 2000's.

1971 was the best team valdosta ever had followed by 1984 and 1969.1986 was a great team but those other teams would have rocked their world.i know cause i saw all of them play.

1976 Cincinnati Moeller,Oh. those were some loaded teams back then BUT when you get kids from the surrounding states and NOT the CINCY AREA!!! Also 2002 warren was a load as massillon lost twice to them. both were great games to watch. the first game massillon had a 10 point lead and lost. In the second game we miss the Xtra point in OT. :thumbsdwn: Would have liked to see us go for 2 as warren seemed to be kinda tired. Well for massillon to keep kicking to super mario yea that was a smart move. There has been some good teams but kinda hard to know who the greatest is when some teams may matchup better then others.

99 Evangel was lucky to have beaten JC, and Monroe in 99.

Evangel 28 JC 20

Evangel 20 Monroe 14

Evangel always found a way to win. In the John Curtis game they were up 28-0 at half. Curtis was unable to catch up in the 2nd half. Evangel beat W Monroe 6 of 7; losing in 2001 37-13 in September & winning in the finals 34-27 in OT breaking their 29 game winning streak. W Monroe had a 20-6 lead & Evangel outscored them 28-7 the rest of the way. Evangel always found a way to win. One sportswriter claimed that he didn't think ANYONE could score 34 points on West Monroe - their defense was so awesome in 2001. They would have challenged DLS for #1 if they had beaten Evangel in the finals.

There were 3 polls back then --- PREPNATION,NSNS out of Arizona & USA Today. Aldine was #1 in the PREPNATION poll. Ruston,La was #1 in the NSNS & a team from Oklahoma was #1 in the USA Today. It's my opinion that Ruston was the best team.

1983 Dangerfield was really good..One of the Best Defense ever in the State of Texas..

They closed the season with 13 or 14 consecutive shutouts and only allowed 8 points in the other games. Unfortunately; they were only a 3A team. It'd be difficult to speculate how they would have done in 4A & 5A. 1992 Southlake Carroll 4A also had one of the best lower classification teams of all time. Scored over 800 points. Some ranked them up there with the best.

John Curtis and West Monroe were great football teams...I was at the Dome for West Monroe/Evangel and ranks as one of the best games I've ever seen...42,000 at that one...Looked like a college game...

Who did DLS beat in 1999?...

USA Today Final Poll 1999
1. Midland (TX) Lee (15-0)
2. Evangel Christian (LA) (15-0)
3. Concord (CA) De La Salle (12-0)
4. Doylestown (PA) Cent. Bucks West (15-0)
5. Naperville (IL) Central (14-0)
6. Lakeland (FL) (15-0)
7. St. Joseph Regional (NJ) (11-0)
8. Garland (TX) (15-1)
9. Cathedral Prep (PA) (13-1)
10. Joliet (IL) Catholic (14-0)
11. Western (MI) (14-0)
12. Long Beach (CA) Poly (13-0-1)
13. Hylton (VA) (14-0)
14. Madison (MS) Central (15-0)
15. Jenks (OK) (13-1)
16. Montgomery Bell Academy (TN) (12-0)
17. Indianapolis (IN) Ben Davis (15-0)
18. Culpeper (VA) County (14-0)
19. Mountain View (AZ) (13-1)
20. Glades Central (FL) (15-0)
21. Etowah (AL) (14-0)
22. Stratford (SC) (15-0)
23. Seneca Valley (MD) (13-0)
24. Skyline (UT) (13-0)
25. Cretin-Derham Hall (MN) (13-0)

DLS,Evangel & Doylestown were probably the top 3 that year.

No question Aldine with Strayhan kicks any teams a**. Ruston was probably better than Lawton Ok though!
