Bosco now has the patent on coaching and discipline!

:weightlift:

Either which way, this won't be a game. Just like I said about Prattville.. That game should've never been played. It was 24-0 and Bosco was rotating in sophomores in the first half.. That's awful. Eventually Prattville caught up after Bosco got comfortable, and them boom the doors came back off again. We should've sent St. Peters to 'Bama for Prattville.. Would've been a better game. On the contrary to what most of you think, I'm a fan of great football.. And unfortunately, I haven't been able to see some of the elite teams around the country, although I have seen a few.. So I want to see the big name guys play Bosco/Prep/Bergen on TV.. Win or lose, IDC! just wanna see some great damn games!

This game doesn't intrigue me, not one bit.

I'd rather a rematch with St. Xavier, a game with STAQ, St. Ignatius, Byrnes, John Curtis.. or even a game in Texas against a Texas powerhouse.. Hell I'd rather see them play Dematha or Good Counsel... I'd like to see them get three OOS games.. I don't care if they win or lose, I just want some better competition.. Regardless, SPP will probably be the team to beat in Jersey this year (on paper)... I'd like to see who their matching up with OOS.. They have the best tailback in the country.

I just want a bigger name team to play Bosco.. No offense to Manatee, I just don't think they will give DBP much of a game, even on an off year. I could be wrong, JMO.

I like OOS games too, but I would rather see Longview play Allen, Euless Trinity, Abilene, and Katy for a non-district schedule. That would be tougher than any OOS schedule you could muster up. You don't have to travel 1500+ miles away to prove yourself and find great competition in Tejas.

I understand why Bosco does, though, and I applaud them for taking on anybody. They want to be know as one of the best, and to do that they have to prove themselves outside of jersey, which despite what you want me to believe, isn't a football power, with any depth what-so-ever. I would like to see Bosco play, it sounds like they play the game the way it was intended. I might be surprised at how great they really are, but I don't think it would be any different than what I see on several occasions every year in Texas.

It might not intrigue you, but don't let a couple OOS wins go to your head...You play enough OOS games you will win some and lose some....

No depth what so ever... According to who? You? The person who in the same paragraph said "I'd like to see bosco play"... In essence, you've never seen anybody in jersey play.. Yet we have no depth what so ever... Credibility, poof, up in flames.

Yeah, ME! I said that jersey has no depth, 1 good team don't make depth. I would like to see Bosco play, but after Bosco there is nobody in jersey that I would give 3 peanuts to watch play.

Bergen catholic, opradell NJ, is the ONLY team to give Bosco a game this year.. What part of that do you not comprehend? If you've never seen anybody in Jersey play, what makes you think Bosco is the only good team???

SJR, Hackensack, Bergen Catholic, Piscataway, St. Peters prep and Don Bosco Prep have all been nationally recognized this decade.

Because some guy in the middle of Texas who spells his states name with a "J" says there's only one good team here makes it true? Did you just get the internet? Do you have television? Did you not see the Will Hill led Sū. Peters prep team on ESPN two years ago?

If we don't have any competition here, then Bama and California really must suck, eh? Bergen Catholic was a NJ team with 3 in state losses... No oos losses... They didn't even make it past the semis... Lolol. Yet DLS couldn't stay within the mercy rule. And Prattville was out of the game 12 minutes in.

WOW, what about that jersey depth! Like I said Bosco is the only team worth mentioning. No one else is a threat to any decent team. And its all because I say so.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone other than Bosco won the Parochial Group 4 crown next year. They're replacing almost everyone. Bergen Catholic actually brings back a lot more. They have a great group of receivers and three OL coming back. St. Peter's brings back Huggins obviously. It will be interesting to see if one of those teams can finally topple the Ironmen.

How could you have an argument for or against DBP when you've never seen them play? You make less and less sense with each post.

I wouldn't sit here and say a team was either good nor bad that I've never seen before. And you certainly aren't basing your opinion on writers' opinions because there's been several other teams from NJ on the national scene in the past 5 years alone.

So how do you foprmulate such a blanket statement, I'm curious to know?

One more thing- out of last years 7 first round picks from NJ, 0 went to Bosco and only one played in Boscos league...

Out of this years projected 4 maybe 5 first round picks from nj, only one went to Bosco and none others even played in that league.. In fact two went to the same high school.. Kyle wilson (boise) and anthony davis, rutgers, both played at Piscataway along with the first DB taken in last years draft, malcolm jenkins... Yeah, kyle and malcolm played opposite each other at corner and receiver... Anthony played o and D line.. Not too bad for a public school in a state with no depth....

Much more leveled playing field this year.. But by the time these guys meet Bosco, they'd have already been in tough games and situations and know their personel...

Who do you think is their main horse this year AK?

I keep up with hs football as much as anybody, esp. in Texas, and occasionally LA, since I grew up 20 miles from the border. With the recent explosion of OOS games, and national polls, hs games being televised etc., you get a feel for what everyone has. I heard of bosco a few years ago, and its no secret they are a great program, probably one of the top 10-15 overall programs in the country on any given year. Them beating Prattville proves that, I don't think DLS is what they were years back, and I wouldn't classify the DLS win a referendum on how great yall are.

Other than Bosco, I've never heard of any of those other schools ever mentioned as a decent football team, much less a national power. So yeah, I would say that jersey isn't a "football" state, or a state with any mentionable depth that would classify them as so. I don't keep up with basketball, actually hate it, but I even know that jersey is a great basketball state (mainly prep and boarding schools), and that because of money and all the elites it has a great educational system. But football, well, its not near the top. With the in-state competition, and a 12 game schedule, its no wonder they win state titles with ease. Not that they wouldn't have their fair share of success in other states, but I wouldn't be surprised, if in a state like Texas if they had a hard time as a Longview, or Allen in winning state titles in Texas. Beating a few OOS teams early in the year, is much different than going through region 1 or 2 in Texas 5A and running the table in November and December.

I'd say Don Bosco will build the offense around Nova and the other QB, forget his name. I know Leonte Caroo is supposed to be a really talented WR. I don't know who is going to fill in at RB. I'm also curious to see who steps in on the OL and on the front 7 on D. Maybe 48minutewarrior can fill us in on those details. Could this be the year Bergen Catholic or SPP knocks off Bosco? If they don't do it this year, one has to think they never will.

So you've never heard of St. Joes regional? Bergen Catholic, St. Peters Prep, Middletown South have received attention in the top 25 since 2003.. All of these teams were ranked previously several times prior to 2003 as well... Just 2005 was most recent.. MTS was crowned the number one team in NJ two years in a row (04 and 05) with knowshon Moreno leading the way. SPP beat Bosco in 05 for the title, BC beat them in 04 for the title... In 2001 BC also won the title. Bosco dominance is newly found, since 02... This hasn't been a great program for very long... And even though they've excelled, these other programs have all been just as solid through the years as they were prior. You not hearing of them is your own fault- several people on here have.

Another correction- Basketball: Linden, plainfield, Science Park, Elizabeth, Bloomfield Tech are some of the best public schools in the country. NJ is undoubtedly the best HS Basketball in America. We have four teams currently ranked in the top 25... We play down to one complete champion in the TOC, the toughest tournament in the country.. NJ has won several tourneys so far this year against many OOS opponents. Its quite common for our nationally ranked teams to never even reach the TOC final because of all the competition here. We are also a huge wrestling and Lacrosse state.. Not to mention won 2 national titles in baseball the past 4 years... And we have probably the greatest HS track and field athlete of all time in Junior Nicholas Vena (morristown,nj)

That kid has to break Michael Carter's records before he can even be considered the best shot putter of all-time, much less the best hs track and field athlete of all-time. He has about 10 more feet to go.

I'll give you the basketball arguement, but as far as wrestling and lacrosse are concerned, who cares. That would be like bragging that Texas has the best archery, skeet shooting, and fishing teams in the country, who cares.

Texas track and field and hs baseball are in the top 2 or 3, if not #1.

And a BIG NO, I have never heard of all those other football power houses. As far as I'm concerned jersey has only 1 football team worth mentioning. I looked at rivals, and maxpreps in the last 4 hours, and their teams ranking for 2009 back that up.

I agree that DLS is still a great team but a national power no!.. I think they have lost four OOS games in a row.. So far Bosco is looking great but I think its time to reach for what many feel is the toughest league.. Texas.. And I know im not alone. Many enthusiast want to see how a great team matches up with their local champ to gauge or get a feel for how strong both squads are. And I personally am like most others. I want my team to win but I really just want watch two Monster teams cross paths..

Michael Carter threw that out of the sector, which was a slope at the end.. His previous best was 75 feet... Ironic that he jumps a whole 6 feet in one meet and never came close to it again after the Golden West classic... Hmmmm

A BIG negative.

He threw 77' at the regional meet his senior year in Abilene. He followed that up by throwing 75'9" at the state meet in Austin. He later threw over 81' in a summer meet. Depending on which national record you are following depends on which one is legit. Some say its the 81' throw, others like the UIL say its the 77' throw.

Either way the kid from jersey has ground to make up. He maybe called the best shot putter of all-time, but I highly doubt he will be called the best hs track and field athlete of all-time.

That could very easily go to Roy Williams (Dallas Cowboys) or Marquise Goodwin, freshman WR at UT, but I'm sure there are others that have just as good arguements.

77 feet and 81 feet are a HUGE difference.. 4 feet is a MILE in the shot... Nick also throws the Discus... Remember, he has three and a half full seasons left to do it... He threw 72'8 as a sophomore. Do you realize how incredible that is? "Field" was the key word in my argument.. This kid is the most sought after athlete in America... Idk what he's throwing nowadays, but ill look it up for you tomorrow. Please don't forget, he's only 16...

4 feet is a long ways. Maybe that had something to do with the location of where he threw it. Maybe higher altitude, or less humidity.

Thats like these kids throwing 230+ feet in the discus in Utah and Colorado. There is only one reason for that. Their 230 foot throw would be more like 205 foot in Texas.

The kid has a chance, no doubt, but 5 foot is still a good bit of improvemnt.

The Marquise Goodwin kid is the best I've ever seen in field events, personally. He long jumped over 26' at the state meet, and triple jumped nearly 51' at the state meet. In the triple, he only jumped 2 times to save his legs for the sprints. More than likely he would have set the state record in that too.
