Trach and Field coach Joe Howell of Rio Grande City Texas has coached the winner of the 5-A Boys Shot event for three years in a row. I think that is a record.
Last year his senior won 5-A Shot at State and also broke 70 feet in a big meet in Boston, Mass. This Spring his Sophmore won at State with a 63' 2" putt.
I have known Joe Howell for over thirty years. Along about 1980 he changed from coaching the glide to the spin and had many, many Dist. Champions. He was one of those coaches who was ready to help anyone and he did. He has had State Winners in the Shot at two different HS. Hats off to Joe Howell.
