LEGENDARY LION: JACK LUMMUS - Lummus School Open House on August 15
A special open house event, to commemorate the opening of Jack Lummus Intermediate School, has been scheduled for Sunday, August 15. It will take place from 2-4 p.m.
The Ennis ISD community is invited to attend this special event at the new campus, located at 801 W. Denton.
The campus is named in honor of Jack Lummus, an Ennis native and World War II hero who posthumously received the Medal of Honor for his service. He is also known for being a two-sport athlete at Baylor University and a member of the New York Giants professional football team.
Lummus, along with Miller Intermediate School, will be the home of students in grades 4-6 beginning this fall. The first day of school is August 23. (per Ennis ISD)
Jack Lummus (EHS '35) was a standout end for the Ennis Lions from '31 to '33 receiving all-district honors. He missed his senior season due to an illness. In '35 & '36, he was an all-conference player at Texas Military College in Terrell. He played football and baseball at Baylor University. In '41 he was an end for the New York pro-football Giants. He served his country in World War II and was killed at Iwo Jima. In 2002, he was inducted to the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in Waco.
