City View is expected to name defensive coordinator Rudy Hawkins as its head football coach today.

Eugene Wilton was told last Thursday he would be reassigned effective today after going 8-32 in four seasons at the helm.

"They told me they wanted to go in a different direction," Wilton said. "I didn't ask any questions."

Wilton had inherited a program in 2007 that had lost 26 consecutive games.

The Mustangs, who went 1-19 in his first two years, finished 4-6 in 2010 and was in the mix for a playoff spot up until the last week of the season.

Hawkins declined comment on Monday, but Wilton and another source comfirmed that Hawkins would take over for the Mustangs.

Hawkins was the Mustangs' defensive coordinator. He also coaches basketball and softball."

Jacksboro acted quickly in filling its head football coaching vacancy Monday, hoping an in-house selection will stabilize a program that has now hired four coaches since 2006.

Jacksboro offensive coordinator Brian Hodnett was promoted to head football coach and athletic director during the Jacksboro ISD school board meeting.

He replaces Tommy Allison, who spent a year at the school before heading off to 3A Robinson last week.

"It was something we were hoping we'd be able to do," Jacksboro Superintendent Dennis Bennett said of making an in-house hire. "We look forward to some stability and consistency, and the only way to get that is to have a guy stay for a while."

Bennett said Hodnett was an obvious successor to Allison, who also earned Bennett's praise for his brief tenure.

"The kids love him and they respect him," Bennett said of Hodnett. "We feel very blessed to fill the position with him."

Hodnett, 31, is excited about the opportunity, which comes at a place where he spent two summers in college serving as a youth intern at Jacksboro Church of Christ.

"I couldn't explain to you what today has been like," Hodnett said. "It's a goal you reach for, and even though it has happened, it's going to take a while before it sets in."

The Tigers averaged 27.6 points per game in Hodnett's first year as a coordinator.

Hodnett came to Jacksboro in 2010 after spending five seasons at Graham on Brad McCoy's staff as the offensive line coach. He also coached powerlifting and track there.

He had spent one season at Jim Ned with McCoy.

Hodnett's wife, Mandy, teaches at Jacksboro Elementary. They have a 10-month-old son, Kason."

Graham offensive coordinator Jeff Williamson has left the Steers to become Jim Ned's head football coach.

Williamson was approved by the Jim Ned CISD school board Monday.

It's Williamson's second coaching stint with the Indians. He was the offensive coordinator for three seasons (2002-04) under Brad McCoy.

Williamson has been a head coach twice before at the Six-Man level — at Paint Creek (1992-95) and Gustine (1996-98).

"It's a good time for me to go back to being a head coach," said Williamson, who was grateful of the time he spent in Graham. "My kids have kept in touch with friends there, and it's a comfortable place for my family."

Williamson, an Olney native, came to Graham with McCoy and served as the Steers' offensive coordinator all six years there.

"He did a real good job of running the offense, and I'm proud of him for the opportunity he's getting," Graham coach Kenny Davidson said. "We'll miss him for sure."

Williamson also coached the Graham golf team, which won the 2008 3A championship and qualified for state in each of his six years.

Assistant golf coach Michael Todd will take over as the team's head coach.

Davidson said he doesn't have a successor lined up to run Graham's offense.

Williamson replaces Walter Hargrove, who went 31-32 in six years at the school. Jim Ned went 1-9 in 2010."
