I did wonder as to why Fairley was not ejected from the game after his little episode with the player's helmet. I mean, he has earned his reputation. But, for the most part, Auburn’s D just plain ole whooped Oregon. I’ve seen many teams with Oregon’s record (usually scores inside of two minutes) take the field against scrappy teams like the Tigers and look surprised when the opposing team didn’t just lay down and let them run over them.
Cam Newton might not be the model of an NFL QB (despite the fact that his dad wants to be his agent) but, he has proven that he is a team player as well as dependable field general. I got the feeling the game was pretty much Auburn’s to win or lose.
Going back to what I posted in the first paragraph, it looked to me that the Ducks relied way too much on their trick plays. Well, they might have worked all year long against lesser quality teams but, not against an SEC type D. While I’m on the subject of “tricks,” how about that run? It took me a few seconds to figure out what was happening but, I thought it just a little bit ironic that the Tigers “trick” play was just using common sense!
