Any thoughts on the boys' new staff? Jerry Jones at least publically stated what I wanted to hear. and that is that he is giving jason garrett total control(at least when it comes to his staff). We'll see what happens when player personnel comes into play.

Jason garrett let go of ray sherman(which has irked some people). and he brought in Rob Ryan which i find to be interesting. I think it was a good move...but we'll see how it pans out.

Next comes players. I think offensively is the cowboys strength. When garrett took over the reigns the cowboys offense played very well(mostly because of the run game). And all that was done with 2nd and 3rd string QB and their crown jewell dez bryant injured. With Romo and bryant returning....roy williams likely leaving....look for the cowboys offense to improve next year. What I feel the cowboys need is a solid slot WR to pair with austin, bryant, and witten(who are all 3 pro bowl caliber) or a guy like crayton without the arrogant attitude in other words a humble guy that just knows his roll nothing else. no need to keep roy williams. I think they make some changes with the OL(probably axing marc colombo and possibly leonard davis). They need to ax marion barber and or tashard choice and bring in a tougher running back that has some speed. With those improvements this could be the best offense in the NFC next year.

The greatest challenge will be defense. and the first thing that needs to change is the attitude. The defense has a few guys that are all pro caliber which is good. But they have some gaping holes. in particular in the middle of the defense behind the down lineman. Inside linebacker needs to get much tougher. they have had a revolving door next to bradie james for years now and the idea that they are going to bring in a veteran who is undersized and past his prime needs to be axed as well. all of these rookie draft picks at ILB have failed miserably and i feel it is because they are trying to fit small guys into something that they can't handle. hopefully sean lee is different. they need to stout ILB and bradie james will be done soon. then there is saftey. Both safties are weak and the cowboys GM has done a very poor job at that position since the departure of jimmy johnson. Bill Parcells never got a solid saftey in the door either while he was here and I think a huge reason was a lot was put on the back of roy williams and he never lived up to expectations. corner is ok neither guy puts fear in you though...both corners cover decently, but they need help at the saftey position because both are completely inadequate. they need to be more physical at the end of the day and IMO that is an attitude that has to start at the top. something that wade phillips lacked...and ultimately led to him losing control. the cowboys defense needs more help than the offense.

Rob Ryan is at Valley Ranch.

"Rob Ryan arrived at Valley Ranch on Wednesday morning, looking like he's ready for work. The Cowboys have not officially announced Ryan's hiring, but sources have said an agreement has been reached for Ryan to become the team's defensive coordinator.

Ryan first will put together his defensive staff. Linebackers coach Reggie Herring is in Houston, interviewing for a position on the Texans' staff. He is expected to leave. Defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni was named the University of Connecticut's head coach last week.

The Browns are expected to allow defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson, linebackers coach Matt Eberflus and defensive line coach Bryan Cox to leave. They served under Ryan in Cleveland the past two years."

Rob Ryan should be a good fit 4 the Cowboys!!
He is the son of former head coach Buddy Ryan as well as a defensive coordinator and the twin brother of current head coach Rex Ryan of the New York Jets, who may be Super Bowl bounded!! :coolthumb:

...this is what I'm not holding my breath on---jerry as GM/owner will not "really" give Jason Garrett total control on anything-YET!! :detective:

Rob Ryan in my opinion brings an attitude that the Cowboys have needed.
An old saying is "If you don't think yu can do it - - - you probably Won't Do It"

On the surface this guy thinks he can do it and let's hope that sifts down to the players.
It takes a little more than "X's" and "O's" and Hard Work plus that "Attitude" just might
show up naxt Fall. He does have an attitude.

I agree with you. Wade Phillips was brought here because of his defensive coaching ability. And where did they tank last year? defense. even after the firing....it was alarming that the team started to win overnight and showed improvement. However, the defense failed to excell in two or three games in which they could have won the game for the team and finished the year off with a bigger bang. so from that standpoint it tells me that this defense, one that was only one year removed from being a playoff one, lacked the type of competitive spirit or attitude that is necessary to winning in the NFL. you know that ryan brings that attitude and spirit. I like the move and it tells me that jason garrett and jerry jones aren't afraid of having guys that aren't afraid of speaking their minds. and that is exactly what this staff needs. history shows us...when there have been "yes men" coaches, this organization has tanked.

to me the bigger question remains whether or not jason garrett has the cajones to tell jerry jones what he wants to tell him. my first move would be to fire the kicker from last year. I don't have a princeton degree. But my first stand to mr. jones would be to tell him the kicker has to go or I do.

I'm very impressed with the coaching to start the season. if not for a few bonehead mistakes they would be 2-0 right now.

i am impressed with the coaching too, if not for a couple of player mental mistakes against the Jets 3-0. making due with a makeshift secondary and wrs, but how long will it last?

was not a good choice to call the t/o before the fg attempt. let a chance to go two up on the Giants squandered.
