read this......it says Texas has 161,000 players playing high school ball. it doesnt matter if one school has 1 guy, or 100 players, there are 161,000 kids playing Texas high school football. with all the accomidations of the greatest coaching, the money, the weight rooms etc, etc..

now it says Florida had only a baby little amount of 38,000 kids.

now the best numbers are Texas has 345 kids going to college, and Florida 1 little guy misses the bus, and only has 344 kids!!!! 1 guy difference!!!!

how in God's green earth does Texas have 123 THOUSAND more kids, and only have 1 more guy????? and this is with Florida having less resources i keep repeating about. i need some insight.

There is not a bottomless pit of scholarships to give out. Texas could have 1M kids playing ball and it wouldn't generate any new scholarships to offer. It becomes a numbers game with a diminishing return on talent and playing at the next level.

My argument is that Tx will not have more than the 345 kids with schollies regardless of how many kids are playing ball (or how few are playing)...that's our number and it will roughly stay there.

Here is another advantage Texas has, if they didnt already need another one, is they have 10 division 1 teams that pull from there home state. Florida has only 7. so if you made Bethune cookman, Famu, and Jacksonville Univ. for example Division 1 teams, all those guys would boost the amount by about 40-50 more.

they would both have 10 teams. you could say those players just go to different d-1 schools, but if you had the 3 extra teams, it would count toward the amount of kids in D-1

great example is Texas san antonio, and Texas state is going into the WAC in 2012. so the only thing different is gonna be those kids are gonna be called D-1 recruits. so it will be more. it will be 12 teams. if Florida had 12 teams we would be overflowing.

we are just too small of a state. something like 5 times smaller than Texas. lol.

Yes, this is true can't argue with that. Texas has a lot of schools that recruit almost exclusively within state.

There's no explanation. Florida has great athletes, that's not a debate.

The real way to find out which states are "most athletic" so to speak, would be to take the number of Seniors playing going to division one and doing some kind of percentage breakdown.. That's the only thing I can think of that would make any sense.

There's absolutely no debate though, that Florida is the most athletic state in the country. I think we all agree on that point?

This is a very good post.

We only have Rutgers here, in NJ, as a division 1 school. If we had any low grade division 1 programs we'd send a ton more kids d-1. This is a HUGE reason as to why so many kids in Ohio are division 1 prospects.. There's 7 colleges to choose from. All we have is Rutgers, even though they had a bad year, they are a great school and a decent program. It's hard for kids to get into, let alone play.

Then you look at Akron, Toledo, Bowling Green... Now you have schools with non-existent academic standards and very low grade football programs, they'll take any decent athlete to fill the roster.

Ohio has Ohio State, Cincinatti, Ohio U, Miami,OH, Akron, Kent State, Bowling Green, and Toledo. thats at least 8 unless im missing anyone. the ironic thing is Ohio State probably has the least amount of Ohio natives then every one of these teams. why would a so called elite state have 6 crappy teams of 8, 1 up and down team, and 1 above average team?? Texas has Texas(usually), Florida has Florida, but now its gonna be the noles!, and Cali has USC. they might have average seasons here or there, but they are 5 star elite. but the secondary teams would crush those teams from Ohio. TAMU, Tex Tech, UCLA, Stanford, Miami, FSU, etc....why hasnt all that so called Ohio talent transformed any of those MAC schools into something better????

If you look at what happened here, its amazing. South Florida became the fastest school in college history to go from their 1st Division 1 year to ranked nationally. i think it only took 5 years to go from 1-AA to ranked 1-A. and the other 5 years was the first 5 years of their football program. they only been playing football for 12 years total!!! now their in a BCS conference, and got like 3 or 4 bowl wins already.

WHY??? because our 2nd and 3rd tier talent does that for you.

Florida Atlantic became the fastest school in college history to go to a bowl game, and fastest to win a bowl game. they only started Division 1 a few years ago too. just like Florida International. baby school, now winning thier conference, and winning Bowl games.

thats what our 3rd and 4th tier talent does. this probably just isnt in Florida, but my point is that everyone elses lower level guys should be elevating the lower level programs. kinda like overacheiving or something

How bad did Florida beat Miami OH this year? And Miami OH had some very good teams in the past 20 years as has Toledo and Bowling Green.

Its crazy that Texas has that many more players than Florida particpating. I know they have like twice the number of high schools, but the Texas population is only about 6M more than Florida (like 24.7M to 18.5M). Florida just doesn't have as many schools and that is what it comes down to. What is really surprising is that Ohio had 18K more players than Florida and Illinois had almost 10K more. Again, Florida has a population of almost 19M, compared to 11.6M for Ohio and 12.7M for Illinois.

Jim Leavitt was not a good in-game coach. Holtz will change this.

And last, there was not 1 elite team in Florida last season or even 1 very good team. You had a good FSU and everyone else was slightly above average.

is that the same cincinnatti team that got their pu$$ies handed to them by Florida in the Sugar bowl by 30?? Cincinnatti was just sloppy seconds for Florida after manhandling Blow-Hio state in the title game. cant say Natti wasnt good. undefeated ranked in the top 7. you'll cry "i was talking about USF". shut up or someone from Florida might come up there and whip someone elses A$$ by 30. lol.

the all time series between UC and USF is 5-3 UC. how is that owning?

Florida had 1 of their worst years in the past decade. Miami,Oh won the MAC. they played week 1 and the center fumbled the ball like 8 times. Florida still won 34-12!!! whats your point??

Don't leave out all of the facts get in the way. UC was in meltdown mold way before the sugarbowl game. Still they were nowhere near UF. The players basically called the game themselves. UC that year smacked USF with a backup quarterback.

I agree that FL has the top talent just not the best teams.

The best teams are in TX. Fl is 4th or 5th.

This whole post is false. OSU has the most Ohio boys playing for them . UC is second

Good points, all of this is true.

From the numbers Texas hs football participation is very very high. As a state, Florida has 18 million themselves, the number of kids playing football don't reflect that. Why is the participation in Florida not stronger?

One thing is certain though, Florida is king per capita. Pretty impressive.
