So what do all of you think about the cowboys this year? It's great to see that the NFL is going to happen. I look for the cowboys to improve, but I'm not quite sure what to think about the defensive side of the ball. I feel that offensively the cowboys can be one of the elite teams in the league. Now that they appear to have one of the most freakishly talented WR's in the game to pair with pro bowl caliber miles austin....I think one of their best moves was simply releasing roy williams. the guys was more of a distraction than anything else and will go down as one of the dumbest trades in cowboys history. Short yardage will be a concern and felix jones will have to step it up in that regard if he wants to remain a cowboy. I'm excited to see if demarco murray can be an NFL rb and feel that he should at the very least help in the return game so that dez doesn't have to do it all.

However, if the defense doesn't take a major step in the right direction, this team will struggle to be above .500
They desperately need to sign a saftey or two in free agency. I think they were wrong to be in pursuit of the elite cb(can't spell his name so he can't be that great lol). This team has needed a saftey every since darren woodson has retired. that is a position where they need to drop some cash. the ones playing saftey now can't tackle and cant cover. not a good combo when you factor in that the corners aren't strong tacklers either.

in special teams...i hear that bueler is still missing chip shot field goals, but recentley impressed jj by winning a wet tshirt contest while bench pressing with high school kids.

anyway post your thoughts please!!!!

Defense is the thing that concerns me the most. The reason is that even though the team got together in the offseason, the defensive guys were not very familiar with Rob Ryan's defensive scheme. They're basically just now learning it in training camp, and to my understanding, it's a pretty complex defense. If they can pick up on it quickly, I think they'll be OK.

true I agree with your statement. I'm glad they addressed the saftey position. the good thing is they brought in elam who has played for rob ryan before. The bad is that it took all but a few days for newman to get injured yet again. so I guess the thought of a healthy year for him is gone. the newman injury is the biggest concern of that defense for me.

One of the best additions no one is talking about is rob ryan. I like that the cowboys have brought in a guy who is passionate, talented, and arrogant enough to make this cowboys defense a physical defense. he is already saying the right things lol.

I think adding Rob Ryan was a great addition as well. Creative, innovative guy. He'll really mix it up on Defense. From what I can understand, he likes to move guys around, bring in various (crazy) packages, and disguise defenses, so you don't really know where pressure is coming from until it's basically too late. If the Defensive unit can catch on to his scheme, I'd think they have the scheme and motivation to be a top 5 Defense this season.

By the way, if you get a chance, check out a book called "Blood, Sweat, and Chalk: The Ultimate Football Playbook".

very true about ryan. I think this defense has some talent, but probably didn't get maximized with phillips as the head coach. I guess we will see with ryan. He is a confident guy that is for sure. Did you hear he said he will be a better coach than his brother and father? He also said that he thought his defense was good in cleveland, but that this dallas team is way better lol.

where would I find it? amazon? online?

will Romo and the rest of the team put his debacle behind him, and get past the niners this week?

we will see. romo and the cowboys played well vs. the jets. showed a lot of potential in a setting that no one expected them to win. they have to eliminate the mistakes obviously.

yes it was a fantastic game, i didn't think they would win, eliminate 1-2 plays and they do. i hope they get it together, and take the "dream team", and other division rivals out.

well they beat the 49ers.....barely. but I'll take it on the road in a game that looked loss with a mess of injuries....none bigger than romo's rib. looks like we may have a 3rd WR in holley.

concerns: cowboys only give up 200 yards in the game, but still yield 24 points. not getting off the field on 3rd down. no run game yet this year. injuries...who is healthy is the question.

whoa!!! only the second game of the season. i cant do this, i cant do this... yea, holley showed up when needed, but he needs to keep his celebration antics in check, or we could of got flagged for 15 and that would have made for a not guaranteed fg as we saw earlier in the game...a win never the less, and i'll take it in this division. i hope we heal quickly.

yeah, i didn't realize that miles austin pulled a hamstring. that means we are without him and bryant. that sucks. hopefully one or both get back soon. good thing we got witten. that 4th down catch was awesome too. he would have thought that we could win a game with austin, romo, bryant, the starting center, and felix jones all injured. luckily romo saved the day.

I hear austin is out for a few weeks. romo may or may not play this week just depends on how well his lung heals. austin is a huge blow because he scores so many TD's. if we can ever keep him, bryant, and romo on the field we are going to be set on offense.

yeah i agree, get and keep those players healthy, and the line protects Romo, cause he go blind sided last week, and last year during the Giants game in Oct. he got jacked up, but those two hits were the rb's not picking up, and we;ll have a pretty dynamic offense...but our secondary concerns me, lb's d-line are fine...and if D'Angelo Hall keeps talking smack, i'm coming outta retirement and whacking him to his back!!!

deangelo hall would be the least of my worries. he better keeps his eyes on dez bryant's cleats.

what a win. tough game. that center needs to get his head in the game. the patched up receivers and secondary did ok, but their performances are going to have to get better.come back soon Austin and come back healthy. Romo played well under all of the adversity. the d coaching was good, the o play calling in the red zone was ? at times need td's not fg's, the fg's were enough this game, but will not be for another. but i'll take this win and i want more i want the post season.

I agree with you 100%. That play call to bennett needs to be scrapped. for a basketball player, he's not very good catching a jump ball. that play works well for a guy like Dez Bryant who will attack the ball rather than passively wait for it to catch itself. I do not understand why they do not run that route to dez every time they get down there. If they elect to double him, another WR will likely get open.

defense? awesome game. the emergence of Lee has really been the difference in the run and pass game. ILB has been a problem for this team since they moved to the 34 defense. they have never had dominate ILB's. for years they missed on the draft, and it finally (knock on wood) appears like they may have hit a home run with lee. I have been calling for an upgrade at ILB for years and maybe they finally did it the right way in the draft. we will see. Dware might be the defensive player of the year when it is said and done(even though lee was for the month). if it would not have been for a couple of tackles, he would have had 7 or 8 sacks already. that's crazy. For now he will have to settle for leading the league with 5. Rob Ryan's defense is already making a huge difference with their swagger. Guys that are backups are coming in and making huge plays. they are creating turnovers and stopping the run a lot better than they did under wade phillips. he is playing more guys rather than riding a select few and wearing them down. what a difference(personality) can make at that level. just goes to show that wade is purely an X's and O's type guy and that personality and swagger is very important as always at that level.

While I don't like the play calling of garrett at times in that game, I give him my respect. He seemed like he has evolved a bit. as a HC you cannot make the same type of play calls or decisions that the OC would make. Sometimes you have to know when to let your foot off the gas and he seemed to do that at the right time in that game. His decision not go for it on 4th down just beyond midfield was great. His decision to settle for a field goal late(rather than looking to run the clock and score a td) was also great. He played the game conservatively and put the game in his defense's hands and they came through for him. that goes a long way in building their confidence moving forward. how many times have we seen them lose that type of game under wade phillips when the defense was called to save a game at the end?

I want to see dware and warren sapp in a cage match. I would put my money on the faster guy who has lean muscle mass.
