Cocoa vs. Dallas Skyline

Skyline looked very impressive. Cocoa did not. Cocoa has a pretty good defense, but no so much offensively. Skyline has a preety good offense and an excellent defense. It's gonna be a long day for Cocoa, and a long trip home for the 2nd week in a row.

I posted in another thread that what concerns me with Skyline is their OL against the speedy DL of Cocoa. I can see Cocoa disrupting what they want to do big time. I do agree though if Skyline is able to provide a decent level of pass protection it will be a long day for Cocoa.I watched parts of both previous games, Cocoa vs. Collerain and Skyline vs. Ridgeway.

I have no doubt that, at least early in the game, the Cocoa D-line will be disruptive and make Skylines O-line work very hard. However, I think this game comes down to the severe mismatch on the other end.Cocoa will no doubt have a few nice runs here and there, but I don't see them having very many long sustainable drives. Skylines defense is one of the best in Texas every year. It's just that they play against weak teams here and it's hard to tell just how good their defense really is. With that being said, I think they will be pretty dominant against little Cocoa.I posted in another thread that what concerns me with Skyline is their OL against the speedy DL of Cocoa. I haven't talked about Skyline's D, but if Cocoa comes out on offense like they did last week against Colerain, they may not score a point. Lot easier to stuff the run when you know a team will run 90% of the time.I have no doubt that, at least early in the game, the Cocoa D-line will be disruptive and make Skylines O-line work very hard. They might as well not bother to show up.I haven't talked about Skyline's D, but if Cocoa comes out on offense like they did last week against Colerain, they may not score a point. Lot easier to stuff the run when you know a team will run 90% of the time.
Cocoa does run on a majority of their plays. Going up against a strong D plus having ineffective QB play equals nightmare result.

I say probably Cocoa by seven but if Skyline plays up to their talent they might win by a little.
Cocoa is like a traveling 2010 Abilene and that is good enough to play close, win or lose against most any team.
The very best of TX, Fl or Ca would be 20 pt favorites but those are over the top teams.
And I think this will be a below 20 pt game on either side.

About the 4 games scheduled on Labor Day in Dallas -- NO Edna Karr (#1 in 4A in Louisiana) lost Wednesday night 38-7 to Covington St. Paul. What should we expect when they go up against Arlington Bowie on Monday? Another big Louisiana team - Evangel lost to Union, Ok last night. Evangel may be going over their heads trying to match up with a perennial national power. -- How do you like ET's new red uniforms? I prefer the old ones myself; but as long as their winning that's really all that matters.I would say Cocoa is the favorite here for sure. Cocoa played with Abilene and I know Abilene wasn't full power but I still say Abilene will beat Skyline any day..Cocoa makes their living with their D.. With all that being said I think Skyline the under achievers can make a game of it.

Yeah, the Red Uni's are something else. I wouldn't mind them wearing them a couple of times a year, but I'd just assume stick with the black ones.About the 4 games scheduled on Labor Day in Dallas -- NO Edna Karr (#1 in 4A in Louisiana) lost Wednesday night 38-7 to Covington St. Paul. Yeah i havent decided if im going to the stadium because im 19 days into wearing this arm brace on a 42 day deal. I had the rotator surgery but should be fine with my pillsAbout the 4 games scheduled on Labor Day in Dallas -- NO Edna Karr (#1 in 4A in Louisiana) lost Wednesday night 38-7 to Covington St. Paul. I think all of the games will be good. I wish our big gun teams could get some games. It always seems we send unranked decent teams to be paired with OOS champions. I do think they do fine though. My more scared of a team coming off a loss so I think La will be ok..
when Katy came off a loss to Woodlands 47-0 then let up Cypress B the next week.
Now about these uniforms, cant say that im in love yet!

Good weekend for Texas. What did the promoters have in mind when they scheduled Douglass (4a) small 3A in Texas to go up against DeSoto? DeSoto looked awesome; but we'll find out for sure this weekend when they go up against Cedar Hill. Does that one player really run 4.25 (40)? I thought that was comical at the Herbshire Classic where the commentator commented that the Louisiana,Florida & Oklahoma teams will be just fine and get back to winning when they go up against their in-state competition. I don't know if he was serious or being sarcastic.Yeah i havent decided if im going to the stadium because im 19 days into wearing this arm brace on a 42 day deal. . And I think most games will be aired on a delay.

I just saw where Katy may have lost their #1 running back to a knee injury. Rivals High dropped them from 14 to 31 as a result. They have this weekend off to regroup. Their defense looks pretty solid & their next game is against Beaumont West Brook. Anxious to see how Arl. Bowie/Skyline game turns out. Allen/Longview should be another barnburner.

For Katy it all starts up front with their talented OL. Their super FR that replaced AT did very well and is projected to be one of their best RBs to come through their system in a long time. I think Desoto is the real deal (For right now). I think they win by 21+

We had a couple of mismatches. It was like last year Miami Central 6a and ranked vs a 3a unranked Dallas Madison and also the Gldes Central Fl vs a low powered Denison.
The only difference was these were La and Ok champs vs very good but not ranked Tx teams. Still a mis match. I dont know why but they almost never get a Tx top team or ranked in these games.
I think the anouncers were right in saying the OOS teams should be fine when they get back home, like the little 4a Oklahoma Douglas team should compete very well being defending champs and after having to play a big strong Tx team.

All the OOS teams were significantly smaller. Apparently National promoters/pollsters don't think in terms of enrollments. If they did Euless Trinity would have been ranked ahead of Aledo nationally.Good weekend for Texas. Man Super B really had this game pegged..
Skyline should have won by more, so I mostly had it pegged.

Except when Trinity played. However, it was the other way around. John Curtis and Shiloh Christian were from lower classifications in their states. Bingham and SC were ranked in the top 25, but SC was a lower classification school and Bingham was from a non power football state. We had a couple of mismatches. Each of those three schools went on to win their respective states titles, so the trouncing by Trinity didn't seem to hurt them.

Yep your right. If you will notice almost every team that gets matched with a TX team usually is a champ or even wins State the same year they play like all of Trinity's opponents so its hard to feel real sorry for them.Except when Trinity played. No, I don't feel sorry for them either. They know (or should know) what they are getting themselves into when they sign on to play in the Herbie. The promoters approach the Texas teams, telling them they have a certain OOS opponent for them to play, but it hardly ever works out that way. Bait and switch. Last season when Trinity played Shiloh Christian, they were originally supposed to play Tulsa Union or Jenks. Either would have been a much more competitive game due to enrollment size. Things didn't work out. Then they were supposed to play STA, but STA got put up against Skyline.Yep your right. If you will notice almost every team that gets matched with a TX team usually is a champ or even wins State the same year they play like all of Trinity's opponents so its hard to feel real sorry for them.
After playing SC, I personally felt given the difficulty of a Monday game and lack of a quality opponent, there isn't much reason for Trinity to continue playing in the Herbie. I know out of Coach Lineweaver felt the same way and Trinity almost backed out in 2009.
So, signing on to play in the Herbie, is just that. Who your opponent ends up being a combination of who the promoters want you to play and who they can get.

How about Lake Travis. They must be for real. That's unbelievable scoring 62 points on a team touted to be #1. What it boils down to is that Aledo has a great offense with Gray in the backfield and he'll probably score another 50 touchdowns before the season's over. However they don't have a defense. If Lake Travis stays healthy; I don't see anyone challenging them in 4A. I'd like to see them go up against 5A's top teams - they're moving up to 5A next season. Another thing; Lake Travis is pretty consistent -- they've won their first 3 games by 28,29 & 27 points. -- On the National scene; Louisville,Kentucky might be moving up in the polls. They beat Cincinnati Elder 56-7 last night. They go up against Cin. St. Xavier (3-0 beat Colerain last night 17-14) next week. I seen where the Cocoa,Fl. coach had higher regards for Colerain than he did for Dallas Skyline indicating that Skyline takes too many chances and that would be their downfall if matched up against Colerain. Of course that can be taken with a grain of salt.Yep your right. If you will notice almost every team that gets matched with a TX team usually is a champ or even wins State the same year they play like all of Trinity's opponents so its hard to feel real sorry for them.
