Good game. Too much speed for Jesuit.

Here are some video highlights with a cameo by coach Gruden.

Plant got totaled by Columbus.

This win is of little consequence; I guess Plant can be happy they started the regular season better than last year though (10-0 over TBT).

D, at first glance I understand your post. However, looks can be deceiving.

Columbus is strong, no doubt. I couldn't go to that game, but speaking to some of the folks close to the program PHS had more than 1/2 its OL out and sat some other guys who had nagging injuries. Columbus also had a few defensive TDs and a short field due to blocked punt (just a few yards) on another. Of course that is part of football, but those mistakes will be eliminated as the year goes on and if you are going to make them, make them in pre-season. Don't know if there will be a re-match, but if so I would expect it to be a lot closer.

As to Jesuit, if you knew anything about Tampa and about these teams you wouldn't say the win is of little consequence. Jesuit and Plant have a lot of ties historically (Jesuit is a private school that pulls a lot of south tampa kids to attend). Plus, based on the makeup of the coaching staffs, the teams could almost be mirror images of each other. Most of the Jesuit coaching staff was on the Plant staff two years. Head coach James Harrell was the D-coordinator; OC Ty Alvarez was an offensive assistant; OL coach Brian McNulty was an O line coach; Coach DeCamp was also on the Plant staff; Plant head coach Bob Weiner, D Coord. John Few, O coord TJ Lane, TE coach Murphy, and special teams coach Walker are all Jesuit grads. Weiner, Few, and Lane were long time Jesuit assistant coaches under former Jesuit coach Dom Ciao. Plant D coach Bo Puckett also spent time on the Jesuit staff. IF ever two teams knew each other, this is the game.

Jesuit was an undefeated squad last year. Also, since you are big on pre-season game results, Jesuit defeated Miami Belen Jesuit the week before, one of the favorites in its class. Jesuit has talent at QB, OL, and receiver. They have 2 D-1 commits on their defensive line. So clearly this team is no slouch. Add in all the ties between the schools and yes, this was a significant win.

I meant the win is of little consequence, nationally.

Neither of these teams are starting the season on the top level of teams, so a win over Jesuit is nice, in Florida, but that doesn't do much for a board of people that don't know much about 2011 Plant - and probably don't even know anything about Jesuit.
