The time has come for the schools in the most competitive county in the state to finally see what their teams are made of. Leading the charge are the Celina Bobcats at 5-0. Other than Prestonwood, no teams have really challenged them. They beat a really good Paris team on the way. They did miss out on a really big match-up with cross-county rival Melissa where the game was called due to bad weather. Next up for the Bobcats is Van Alstyne.
Melissa, a 2A team stuck in the midst of a bunch of good 3A teams, has lost 1 game, to another 2A team. They have beat 2 Collin Co. teams though, Community and Anna. The other county rivalry game as you know was cancelled. This week the Cardinals host Caddo Mills in a match-up between 2 of the area's top 2A teams.
Lone Star has come a long way from the 0-10 team from last year. Bringing back the very same team that allowed an average of 40+ points a game, the Rangers started with a huge win over Castleberry and then won 2 more games on the way. They will begin their district action on Thursday night at Pizza Hut against Princeton.
Princeton is loving life at their newly renovated stadium. With their new team colors, they advanced to the playoffs for the first time in over 30 years. They have been floating around in the DMN SportsDay rankings for the first 5 weeks and are ready to make a return to the post season. Their game Thursday could determine their playoff destiny.
Also making history last season was Anna. The Coyotes will return several key starters and also showcase some new talent. This will be another "win 2 games and you're in" season for Anna. However, they lost 4 straight after their 2 opening wins. Plus, their next game against Celina.
The 2 biggest 3A teams in Collin County are Lovejoy and Prosper and these 2 teams have an epic battle to start their district run. Both teams are 3-2 and both losses came from very good teams. From next week on, don't expect to see these 2 teams tested until the playoffs.
We will now cross Lake Lavon into Farmersville, where the state championship celebration has long died down, and their district reigns are now but a memory. Their lone win came over a struggling Rains team, which doesn't really boost the Farmers' confidence. However, the loss against Van Alstyne is by far the best performance for Farmersville as they scored 55 points against the Panthers and coming only a TD short. There is no reason why they shouldn't do the same this week and possibly challenge for a playoff spot. Who do they play this week?
Oh yeah, the Braves. Between injuries, a tough schedule, and lack of interest, Community is heading into a season like no other. They should score a couple of touchdowns here and there, but opponents are going to use the Braves as a practice squad to prepare for the playoffs. Now don't get me wrong, Community has some very good players, but this schedule is very brutal and the Braves just don't have the manpower to keep up. Right now, their focus is the next re-alignment and the young players that will step up next season. Right now the team is consisted mostly of 11th, 10th, and 9th graders, with 3 or 4 seniors.

My spring predictions for this season are holding true so far so I disagree a little with your predictions for Prosper & Lovejoy. Prosper is the clear favorite for the district title and I predict the game will not be close tonight (hope I am wrong). Prosper took it to Argyle and Argyle took it to Lovejoy. Lovejoy has had a few key players come back from injury but Prosper's freshmen class last year was amazing and my guess is at least a handful of those kids are starting or contributing significantly on varsity, they had speed and size so I think Prosper's gun is loaded for the next 3 football seasons. Prediction tonight is Prosper 49, Lovejoy 24. If Lovejoy wins, it will be because we outscored em something like 28-27 and ran the ball 50+ times and chewed up clock, but that would be a big upset in my opinion. Instead, I predict the game of the week in district will be the Lovejoy Princeton game and the winner will take 2nd place in district and the loser 3rd place. If there is a wildcard it is Frisco which I think will finish 2-3, in 4th place with wins against Farmersville and Community.

I am dreading to see the Braves-Farmers meeting because I fear the worst. However, Community seems to play Farmersville harder than any other team. Plus, this season, it looks like it will be the closest we will get to even smelling victory until next season.
At this point it looks like Princeton picks up at least a playoff spot, but you think they got a shot against Lovejoy? They did pretty well against Lone Star 48-35.

Winners this week were Princeton, Farmersville, Celina, and Prosper. Princeton defeated Lone Star despite the Rangers' effort trying to get their 1st district win. Celina continues their district dominance by defeating Van Alstyne. Farmersville wins the classic battle with the injury stricken Braves. There was a lot of emotion involved with this game where Community refused to give up after 3 injuries to 3 important playmakers. Prosper dominated their game against Lovejoy which places them in charge of the district unless someone pulls off a miracle upset. Community should be about done for the season as their roster continues to shrink to close to 20 players. Next up for them is Princeton, but I can't see them scoring more than twice. Anna plays Celina next.

This week Farmersville plays Lovejoy, Lone Star plays Prosper, Community limps into Princeton, and Anna plays Celina. Which one of these games will feature an upset?
