Cisco's Reed takes Player of the Week.
By Evan Ren.
Abilene Reporter-News.
"It hasn't been easy for Cisco players to win Big Country Player of the Week over the years, due primarily to an overabundance of lopsided wins produced by the Loboes that have seen the starters standing on the sidelines sipping water by the end of the third quarter.
This week is an exception, with CHS running back Mason Reed earning the accolade after scoring six touchdowns in a 48-21 win over a good Crawford team on Friday.
Reed, only a sophomore, scored on runs of 78, 1, 5, 3 and 16 yards while producing 165 yards rushing on only 15 carries. But his most significant play may have come on a 48-yard punt return to give the Loboes a two-score lead along with a huge momentum shift.
As if that wasn't enough, he also collected three solo tackles and 11 assisted stops defensively.
"He's so consistent that every week, we pretty well know what we're going to get out of him," Cisco coach Brent West said. "He's one of those kids who tries to outwork everyone.
"When you have a sophomore who works as hard as your seniors, you know you have something special."
Reed's effort helped the Loboes (10-0) lock up the District 4-2A DII title with a 6-0 league record. Earning a first-round bye with the win, Cisco now awaits the winner of Sanford-Fritch (5-5) and Forsan (6-4) in next week's area round."

MANSFIELD —"But 405 yards rushing was the real key behind Cisco's 35-28 win over Corisicana Mildred in Friday's Class 2A D-II state semifinal at Newsome Field.
Behind running backs Hayden Lewis and Mason Reed, and quarterback Colten Gayle, all of whom rushed for more than 100 yards, the Loboes (14-0) overcame an early deficit behind a huge push from its offensive line.
Cisco's first two possessions of the second half were crucial. Both ended in scores, beginning with a 3-yard touchdown run by Lewis with 7:04 left in the quarter to cap a time-consuming, 11-play 77-yard drive.
The Loboes then expanded that lead to 28-14 following an 18-yard touchdown run and subsequent 2-point conversion run by Reed with 3:46 left in the period.
Reed finished the evening with four scores — the last of which came on a 29-yard run with 3:25 to play to give the Loboes a 35-21 lead."

BC Player of the Week: Cisco's Reed nabs honor.
By Evan Ren.
"One could easily have chosen any number of Cisco Loboes as being indispensable in Friday's 35-28 win over Corsicana Mildred in the Class 2A DII state semifinals.
Yet one in particular, sophomore Mason Reed, was good enough to stand out among all the standouts. Reed, who rushed for 131 yards on just 15 carries, found the end zone on four separate occasions — with scoring runs of 4, 2, 18 and 29 yards — the last of which proved to be the game-winner, with 3:25 left in the contest.
"He's the fresh workhorse we put into the game, especially when we get into the red zone when we get into the (I formation)," West said. "He's usually the guy we go to when we need those tough yards and every week he finds a way to get that tough run."
Reed also is a quality defender, having charted 10 tackles, one for loss and one pass breakup.
The best news for Cisco: They've got two more years of service from Reed, who will likely enter the 2012 season as one of top small-school running backs in the Big Country.
"Yeah, I guess we'll take him back," joked West, whose Loboes will face Refugio for the state championship on Friday in Arlington. "He's definitely got something we can work off of for the next two years."
