Someone on this post asked a few weeks ago if anyone in Texas would be able to stay within 3 TD's of Ramsey Don Bosco,NJ. I laughed and asked if they were serious. There are several teams in Texas that would tan their hides; including some that have now fallen to the wayside. On another note;Whats up guys! lets kick up some conversations! how was everyones thanksgiving?
talk about living on the edge;
2A-DIV I - Region 3; Blanco (3rd place team) has reached the Quarter-Finals by scores of 21-20, 14-13 & 14-11.
The closest to this is: Spring Westfield (4th place team) in 5A-DIV II - Region 2 by scores of 30-27, 13-7 & 33-25.
Also: Coldspring-Oakhurst (1st place team) in 3A-DIV II - Region 3 by scores of: 7-0, 21-14 (OT) & 13-7.
Pearland (2nd place team) seems to be on a roll now - won't be surprised to see them in the Finals again. I don't believe either Harlingen or SA Madison will stop them or Hightower; however Region I & II are anybody's guess. I doubt if DBP would still be alive after 3 weeks of the Texas playoffs. Their lofty scores impress some people; however you also see similar scores in Texas: Cy-Fair 63-14,Pearland 41-0 & 47-7, Harlingen 66-14, SLC 40-7, DeSoto 54-10, Austin Westlake 42-6, Katy 63-7. When they face stronger competition the scores are much closer. Then the naysayers say Texas teams lack D-E-F-E-N-S-E when you see scores like: 49-24, 55-36, 41-31, 38-28, 35-34, 59-35, 48-38, 44-30 (followed by 9-7), 38-35. When the season is over & DBP is 12-0 (600-65) & Louisville Trinity 14-0 (750-105) & someone from Texas is 16-0 (650-325); you know who they'll be most impressed with. Something else amusing - DLS,California is moving up in the rankings due to their lofty scores. Due to "short term memory" on the part of the Pollsters they seem to have overlooked their 30-6 pasting by STA,Florida - now 10-2. If they played again this weekend; the result would more than likely be pretty much the same.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was just looking at the "Compilation Rankings" on Rivalshigh. Some people think it's a joke and maybe their right. Some of the 8 polls think Coeur d'Alene, Idaho (#35), Eden Prairie, Mn (#53) & Detroit Cass Tech, Mich (#53) should be ranked in the top 25 so they garnered enough points to finish as listed above. There are actually 56 teams listed & 4 tied for #53 with 1 point. ------ So if teams such as: Katy, Euless Trinity, Allen,Tx., Kingsland Camden County,Ga., Broken Arrow, Ok., Warner Robins Northside, Ga., Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Pa., Warminster Arch. Wood Catholic, Pa., Lakewood Lakes, Wash., Duncan Byrnes, SC, W. Palm Beach Dwyer & FL STA, Fla., Shreveport Byrd, Carencro, West Monroe & NO Jesuit, La. did NOT make anyone's top 25 list then they do not garner any points and aren't considered to be in the top 56 teams nationally. Oh by the way Concord De La Salle, Cal. came in at #21.

Not everybody.Everybody is on Rivals. Beware the host is sorta anti Texas. So you get alot of idiots on there pretending every state is just as good at High School football as Texas and the big states.

Lots of excitement this weekend. Yesterdays games were very intertaining but when it's all said and done it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Not everybody.
Who really is the best 1A team and who will really be the best 2A team; etc? When you stop to think of it; none of the "socalled" State Champions are
really State Champions -- their just Division Champions. Texas has NOT crowned a true State Champion in over 20 years. When will the UIL finally wake up and realize this. Either let the 2 "Division" Champions play next week and crown a true State Champion; or else only allow 2 teams from each district into the playoffs. This is the only way any team can truly be called a State Champion. Texas crowned 3 "Division Champions" yesterday and will crown 6 more "Division Champions" today and tomorrow.

I have long had the opinion that the two Division Champions should play to crown a "True" Classification State Champion. I would even like to see the 4A Division 1 State Champion play the 5A Division 1 State Champion and the 4A Division 2 State Champion play the 5A Division 2 State Champion. 2010 would have been great to see Lake Travis play Pearland and Aledo play Cibolo Steele. Imagine that matchup of Johnathan Gray and Malcolm Brown! The UIL is dull and will never be exciting though.

I couldn't disagree more. If you truly have this belief, why not have all champions play each other for ONE true State champion? The division winners can play each other, then 5A plays 4A, 3A plays 2A, 1A plays winner of 3A vs. 2A and the winner of that game plays the 5A vs. 4A winner.I have long had the opinion that the two Division Champions should play to crown a "True" Classification State Champion. I will ask for the 1,000th time. What is the different between...
1A division I, 1A Division II, 2A division I, 2A Division II, 3A division I, 3A Division II, 4A division I, 4A Division II, 5A division I, 5A Division II
and
1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A, 9A, 10A.
You guys accept the fact that there are different classifications 1A-5A, but cannot accept the Division splits. I think you are getting caught up in a name.
I agree, it would be nice if there was 2 playoff teams in each classification, no divisions and 6 or 7 classifications. However, saying there has not been a true State Champ in the last 20 years is ridiculous.

I'll put it this way. When the UIL convenes next month or whenever what they should do is:I couldn't disagree more. If you truly have this belief, why not have all champions play each other for ONE true State champion? and
1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A, 9A, 10A.
You guys accept the fact that there are different classifications 1A-5A, but cannot accept the Division splits. I think you are getting caught up in a name.

A. Only allow 2 teams from each district qualify for the playoffs -- the way it was from 1982-1989. Then there would be 64 teams qualify for the playoffs and hereafter Texas would be able to say this team or that team is "Truly" the State Champion in 5A, 4A, etc. The way it is now who can say which
team is "Truly" the best team in 5A -- SLC or Dekaney. Who is truly the best team in 4A -- Lake Travis or Aledo; etc. Oh yes Lake Travis beat Aledo
back early in the season; but many times teams lose in September and redeem themselves in December like Euless Trinity did against Odessa Permian a few years back. We've been 20 years now with doubts in everyone's mind and it's time for this nonsense to come to an end. They're not going to even consider having DIV I & Div II playing after Christmas so I say go back to the 2-team concept like it should be.
B. Some years that come to mind -- Who really was #1? There are a few more; but off the top of my head I remember these.
1996 - 15-0 Lewisville or 16-0 Austin Westlake
1999 - 15-0 Midland Lee or 15-1 Garland
2003 - 15-0 GP North Shore or 15-1 Katy
2011 - 16-0 SLC or 14-2 KeKaney
C. Could you fathom having 2 Super Bowls - for instance; one on the East Coast & one on the West Coast one week apart
with both winners claiming to be Super Bowl Champions? Having 2 State Champions in each classification makes
no more sense than that.

Here is how the playoffs would have looked if only 2 teams were allowed into the 5A playoffs:

I agree.6A would be great as far as I'm concerned. Schools with a 1000 kids or more spread in the same class is a little unfair. It would really be great for 4A and 5A.

I believe they should leave it as is with 1A - 5A. There are teams with large enrollments over 4000 that are not sports powers and others with 2500 that are depending onI agree.
whether sports is a priority in their particular school. However the 2 Division Champion situation should be dealt with immediately. We don't need 2 champions - only 1 so everyone will know who really is the #1 team in each classification. This rediculous nonsense started in 1990 and needs to come to an end. It would be nice to look back on each season and know for a fact -- this team or that team was #1 that year. But; who was #1 last season in 5A -- SLC or Spring DeKaney? Who was #1 in 4A -- Lake Travis or Aledo? No opinions - just facts. Can't be done. I realize that Lake Travis beat Aledo handily early in the season; but many times the loser redeems themselves in December. Example is Odessa Permian 30-3 in September/Euless Trinity 38-14 in December a few years ago. What I believe is that only 2 teams from each district go to the playoffs and crown a "true" champion -- or start the season one week earlier and have the 2 Division champions meet the Saturday before Christmas.
