I saw a video recently from an out-of-state team that did an interesting onside kick, and I was wondering if it was legal in Texas...

Team A is lined up in an onside kick formation.

Player A advances, picks the ball up off the tee (without crossing the 40), tosses it backward to another player, who then catches it, advances, and kicks it along the ground.

Is something like this legal in Texas?

Interesting question. Not sure. It sounds like a drop-kick. I know you very seldom ever see a drop-kick any longer and I've only seen it used on extra-points and field goals. Back to the question on rather player A can pick the ball up from the tee and lateral it to player B who then advances and drop-kicks the ball.... going with No on this one. Sounds more like Canadian football to me.

actually it is legal a kickoof after a try or field goal it must be a place kick or a drop kick. I dont know about the backward pass with the new kickoff rules in place if they satisfy the new 5 yard rule its not illegal but ill ask our rules guru about the second part.
