District 15-5A 2012

New comer: Lake Travis (5-Times in a row 4A State champ)LT will liven this district up alot, and once again they will be the favorite to make another run to state, this time in 5A. (Predict:district champs)
Westlake: Reloading with talent, WL aims to take down LT, WL is tired of being looked upon as little brother, no doubt WL wants to put a stop to that.
Chaps will make the playoffs, but being in region has really keep them from making a deep run, not like region 4, where they always maked a deep run.
(Predict:2nd place)
Bowie: Losing some good seniors, but always having JV players fill in, Bowie seeks to raise the bar higher, always in the run for playoffs, but never really making it to far, seem to fall short, Bowie will be in the mix for that playoff spot.(Predict:3rd place)
Now getting to the lower level talent pool?? LOL!! J/K!!
Austin: Losing big play maker(WR)Jones, Austin is hoping his little brother can take his spot, we will see soon, Defense was slaughter last year, giving up big yardage, 2nd worst in district, they need some serious work, they maybe in for a playoff spot!?
Anderson: Should of made the playoffs, but feel short to Austin, If they can beat DV, Akins, Austin, then they are in, but its gotta be conveincing wins, no close ones. Anderson has very good talented players.
Del Valle: Made the playoffs last year by a hair and some "LUCK", DV needs to make some serious changes to the defense..."very weak".
Losing a few players to Bastrop(transfers)DB Antwuan Davis(committed to Texas), and ATL Aneas Hendricks(offer from TX. Tech) and RB Xavier Holman(Houston Westside), DV's needs to find players to fill in some big shoes. Saw the red/white spring scrimmage game, offense looks decent, big runs, a few long passes, was able to move ball 80% of the time, defense also looked some improve, three INT's and two fumble recoveries, varsity defense made some fourth down and goal-line stops.
AKins: Well, what is there to be said about Akins, it doesn't look good for the Eagels, once again they will be struggling, they may able to win a game this year, talent is short, and (good) coaches are too.

who is this josh cleveland that ran a 4.29 fdrty? Is he a football player, or just a track guy trying to play football. We had one a few yrs back Lache seastrunk that was more of a track guy than football player. That is flying
He is a RB for DV, don't think he is in track, never heard of him on track team, and didn't know he could run that fast. there is a video I posted on another thread of him running 70+ TD.

Obviously, I think LT has the upper hand to win the district. Then as usual, Westlake. I guess the other spots are up for grabs?
LT, Westlake, and Bowie have a lock on the Top 3 spots. Bowie isn't quite State Champ material, but they're definitely one of the better teams in the Austin area. Plus, there's a lot of parity between the best and worst teams in this city.
In years past, Austin High would have given Bowie a run for their money but these days the maroons are floundering. Akins is "that team" that is lucky to get 1 win in a season. Del Valle was fairly strong in 4A, but then jumped up and they haven't been doing so well. Anderson would do well in 4A (where they technically belong), but they always ask UIL permission to stay in 5A, and they always get it.

Feel bad for the football program.

What is the deal with Akins?? Is is the coaches are the players??
Feel bad for the football program.
Honestly, I don't know. It's not like they don't have athletes because their basketball team is typically pretty decent. I think it's the coaches and the fact that they have been bad for so long that being on the football team might almost seem "un-cool" at Akins.

I had talked to one of my newphews that attended Akins for one year, did play football for JV, and that is exactly what the attuide is at Akins,
sad that it has to be that way, alot of wasted talent over there.
I know it was like that for DV back in the late 80's and through the 90's, but it has improve alot, since DV has been growing, talent is greater.
DV use to be mainly air force brats that moved in and out of Bergstom Air Force Base, DV was rural farm land.

Last win was in 2009 vs. Anderson.
How much longer until they win again?
Akins Eagles 2012
Week 0 vs. Crockett
Week 1 @ McCallum
Week 2 @ Bastrop
Week 3 @ Travis
Week 4 @ Del Valle
Week 5 vs. Westlake
Week 6 @ Lake Travis
Week 7 vs. Austin High
Week 8 @ Bowie
Week 9 BYE
Week 10 vs. Anderson
I think their only shot at a win this season is maybe against Crockett or Travis in non-district. Even then, it's not looking good for Akins. The offense last year averaged just 8.3 points per game. The defense allowed an average of 47.2 points per game. Smallest margin of loss was 10 points vs. Hays. Largest was by 70 points to Westlake. Average margin of loss was 39 points. I don't think 0-10 would be an unreasonable expectation for Akins this season. 2-8 at best, but it's not likely.
P.S. Why yes! I do like stats!
37 days, 3 hours, 28 minutes until football season!

As long as we're discussing the Eagles... Akins is currently riding a 25-game losing streak.

Good information,
I agree with you, Akins best chances are against Crockett/Travis, they need some major changes, AISD needs to realign the school boundaires?

As Captain Jack Sparrow would say... "To what point and purpose?"
They've got the numbers. Second highest enrollment in Austin ISD (3rd in 15-5A behind Bowie and Del Valle).
I think you and Campbell hit the nail on the head. The problem is that they've got the potential athletes; those potential athletes just don't play football. Akins could have 5-6 wins each season if they put some better talent on the field.
AISD is puzzling. Schools in the 'burbs are all about football. Round Rock Schools, LT, Westlake, Pflugerville, Dripping Springs, Leander, Cedar Park, etc... But Bowie is really the only AISD school that has a consistently good football program. Austin High had a good run years back, but they've returned to mediocrity. Some of their 4A teams are alright, but not much of a threat at the state level. For the largest district in town, it's just puzzling.

Austin ISD's 9-12 high schools:
Akins, Anderson, Austin High, Bowie, Crockett, Lanier, LBJ, McCallum, Reagan, Travis.
*didn't include Eastside Memorial because they apparently only played 3 games last year.
These schools went a combined 33-69 last year. AISD had a winning percentage of 32.35%
While it's hard to determine where Austin's suburbs end...
Kyle Lehman, Hays, Dripping Springs, Leander, Rouse, Cedar Park, Vista Ridge, Vandegrift, Marble Falls, Del Valle, Westlake, Lake Travis, Round Rock, Westwood, Stony Point, McNeil, Pflugerville, Hendrickson, Connally, Georgetown, Hutto, and Elgin.... had a combined record of 148-102 in 2011. Winning percentage of 59.2%
That's a difference of 26.85%.

all the talent is moving out to the suburbs, inner city is depleted and left with the rest, parents want the best schools for the kids, so they move, at least most of them.
Look at Eastside memorial, low income family's in the area, they cannot afford to move out, not enough talented kids to play football, same with Reagan, pretty soon, they will be in the same situation, just a matter of time.
Anderson is small, but its starting to grow, wealthy family's in that area, better coaches, better talent, along with Austin, Bowie is suburb of a growing part of Austin with big pool of talent.
Man, you have a skill with stats, you should of taken over the schools historys and stats on this site.

Microsoft Excel makes it easy.
I just have entirely too much free time on my hands until I'm able to find a new job. Or get back to school. Whichever comes first.
