Marrs High School (informally called Aldine after the surrounding community) opened September 14, 1936. The original campus was located in what was then rural, unincorporated north Harris County, on Aldine-Westfield Road at Aldine-Bender. J.E. Borden served as the first principal and Floyd Crouch was named head of boy’s physical education and athletics.

Marrs High underwent expansions in 1939 and 1953 before burning to the ground in November 1954. The school was reborn as Aldine High in September 1956 at 11101 Airline Drive at West Road. As the surrounding area transformed from semi-rural to suburban to urban, Aldine High saw several additions over the years to accomodate a rapidly growing student body. New wings were built in the early 1960s, 1972 and 1997. In 1999, 9th graders moved to a new building (Aldine Ninth Grade Center) at 10650 North Freeway.

In the classroom, Newsweek magazine rated Aldine High 574 in its 2006 list of 1,400 top high schools in the U.S., while the Houston Press ranked the school sixth in the Houston area.

On the sports field, the Aldine Mustangs have won two team sports state championships: the 1970 Class 4A baseball title and the 1990 Class 5A Regular Division football crown. ESPN also named Aldine its 1990 national football champions.

[edit] Team Rivals

Aldine MacArthur Generals
First meeting: 1967
Aldine leads all-time series 28-14-1 as of 2009

Series' Greatest Game
1982 Aldine 35 MacArthur 35
Mustang K Steve Kennard misses a game-tying PAT with no time left, apparently giving MacArthur the game and the District 21-5A runnerup playoff spot. However, a roughing the kicker penalty gives Aldine new life. When Kennard converts, it's the Mustangs who advance to the playoffs and the Generals' season ends. The game features seven ties or lead changes. Aldine QB Darcy Davis throws for 219 yards and two scores, hitting on 9-of-12 attempts, while General RB Roy Lee Jackson rushes for 224 yards and three TDs on 36 carries. In 1989, the Houston Chronicle names this one of its Games of the Decade.

Aldine Nimitz Cougars
First meeting: 1979
Aldine leads all-time series 23-8 as of 2009

Series' Greatest Game
1998 Nimitz 41 Aldine 34
In a game filled with offensive fireworks, the Nimitz Cougars saved their biggest two plays for last. With 2:55 left to play, Cougar QB Craig Harris hits WR Jarvis Smith on an 80-yard TD pass to give Nimitz a narrow one-point lead. Moments later, RB Quentin Griffin rambles for an 80-yard TD run to seal the win over then-unbeaten Aldine and put Nimitz on path for the school's first-ever district title. Game features six ties or lead changes and numerous big plays. Nimitz piles up 610 total yards, with Harris throwing for 362 on 16-of-22 passing. Aldine's Anthony Jones has an 81-yard kickoff return for a TD and Mustang RB Sidney Taylor has a 73-yard scoring dash.

Aldine Eisenhower Eagles
First meeting: 1980
Aldine leads all-time series 17-13 as of 2009

Series' Greatest Game
2005 Aldine 49 Eisenhower 47 3OT
Aldine WR Chancious Rose snares a two-point conversion pass from QB Darron Thomas to give the Mustangs an offensive-laced 49-47 triple overtime win over perennial power Eisenhower. The Eagles had rallied from 14 points down midway through the fourth quarter to force overtime. The two teams traded scores in OT, but when Eisenhower missed the required two-point try in the third OT frame, the Mustangs sealed the win, snapping a six-game losing streak to their rivals. Aldine's Terrance Anderson rushes for 263 yards and three scores on 34 carries while the Eagles' Freddie Brown throws for a TD, and runs for 206 yards and three TDs on 30 carries.

Humble Wildcats
First meeting: 1938
Aldine leads all-time series 17-14 as of 2009

Series' Greatest Game
1993 Aldine 37 Humble 35
With Aldine holding a commanding 37-13 lead entering the fourth quarter, there seemed to be nothing special about this game. Someone forgot to tell the Wildcats, who engineered an improbable 22-point rally to pull within two-points. Humble then threatened again from the Mustang 8-yard line with time running out, but missed what would have been a 25-yard game-winning field goal, letting a relieved Aldine escape with their lives and a 37-35 win.

Humble Kingwood Mustangs
First meeting: 1981
Aldine leads all-time series 7-3-1 as of 2008

Series' Greatest Game
1990 Aldine 24 Kingwood 21
Facing fourth-and-25 and with time running out, Aldine needs a miracle to not only win the game, but keep its top ranking in the state polls alive. And a miracle is exactly what Aldine gets. All-State QB Eric Gray hits WR Will Skinner on a deep curl pattern with 1:47 left for a 65-yard game-winning TD. The Houston Chronicle names this its Play of the Year. It's also Aldine's second TD of the game on a fourth-down play, as Gray had earlier scored on a five-yard run. Aldine would eventually go on to win the state 5A small school title and Kingwood would reach the state 5A big school semifinals.

Humble Atascosita Eagles
First meeting: 2008
Series tied 1-1 as of 2009

Series' Greatest Game
Too early to make a call.
