Burnet WR Sterling Galban Commits To Texas Tech

Texas Tech added Commit No. 20 to their 2018 class this evening with Burnet wide receiver Sterling Galban. He is the fifth wide receiver in the class, as Texas Tech didn’t have a single wide receiver in its 2017 class.

Galban was previously committed to Iowa State, but re-opened his recruitment earlier this summer so that he could consider other schools. Ultimately, the speedy receiver chose the Red Raiders over other Power 5 offers like TCU and Illinois, as well as various Group of 5 offers.

Texas Tech’s current starters at the slot receiver are senior Cameron Batson and junior Keke Coutee. With his size (5’10” 180 pounds), Galban would appear to be a natural fit at the slot position as part of Tech’s efforts to reload the depth chart once Batson and Coutee are gone.

According to Scout.com, Galban finished his senior season with 70 catches for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns. Galban also runs track, finishing the 2017 outdoor season with a 10.58 100-meter dash, which is incredibly impressive for a high schooler.

Undersized and quick slot receivers have made a name for themselves at Texas Tech. Galban will excite the fan base and draw comparisons to Wes Welker, Danny Amendola and even Galban’s future offensive coordinator Eric Morris, who finished his career as a Red Raider with nearly 2,000 yards receiving.
