Cedar Hill looked to be the aggressor this time around in a rematch against Mansfield. The first time around, they had to rally from a 20-point deficit in the fourth quarter. There would be no rally needed this time around as Cedar Hill dismantled Mansfield 56 – 28 to advance to the 6A DI Region I Final.

Cedar Hill, in a reverse of fortune, would be the ones heading into the fourth quarter with a hefty 42-21 lead after a healthy dosage of their running game was dispensed throughout the night. Cedar Hill put Mansfield in a bind early as they lit the Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletics Complex scoreboard first following a 20-yard touchdown run by Marquise Foreman. His score came off the heels of a 52-yard run by Kaegun Williams to spring open the offense for the game following two punts on both teams’ opening drive.

The kick off to follow would be mishandled by Mansfield and be recovered by Cedar Hill at the Mansfield 15, which set up Foreman’s second touchdown of the quarter from two yards out. Facing a 14-0 deficit, Mansfield would respond with their go-to-weapon in Kennedy Brooks as he exploded for a 65-yard run and shifted some momentum in favor of Mansfield. However the momentum would quickly shift back to Cedar Hill’s side as quarterback Avery Davis delivered a strike down the middle of the field to wide receiver Jihad Thomas for a 21-yard touchdown pass.

“We’ve been getting better every single week and we have some special kids and whenever they play like they played, that Cedar Hill brand of football, we play at a different speed,” said head coach Joey McGuire. “We get another week and we get to go back to AT&T Stadium.”

At the start of the second half Cedar Hill had a 28-10 lead with Mansfield set to receive the ball. Mansfield was able to kill six minutes of the game clock in the third quarter as Ben Workman kicked his second 25-yard field goal of the night to have the Cedar Hill lead cut to 28-13.

Two more scores would however see Cedar Hill reach the 42 mark with Avery Davis connecting with Charleston Rambo for a 74-yard touchdown with over a minute left in the third quarter. Mansfield hoping to muster a remarkable comeback of their own would have Kennedy Brooks score again on a 7-yard touchdown to have the scoreboard read 42-28 but the Cedar Hill run game would prove to be too much, as both Kaegun Williams and Avery Davis would cap off the night with the final two scores of the game.

Marquise Forman reached the century mark and had two touchdowns while Kaegun Williams had two touchdowns on 53 rushing yards and Cameron Fleming chipping in a touchdown of his own. Avery Davis threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns with a rushing touchdown as well.

Cedar Hill will now face DeSoto in the Region I final in AT&T Stadium next Saturday.
