David Bailiff’s 2018 class continues to increase as a rapid rate. To cap off what was a tremendously noteworthy week on the recruiting trail, Saturday night saw Rice pick up commitments from Cinco Ranch teammates and brothers, Blake and Brant Kuithe.

A pair of three-star pledges, Blake and Brant held 15 and 16 offers, respectively, with their offer list being almost identical. Programs including Boise State, Colorado, Iowa State, SMU and San Diego State were among those vying for their commitments.

Blake, a standout strong-side defensive end, racked up 94 total tackles, six sacks and 25 quarterback hurries as a junior for Cinco Ranch.

While his brother anchored the defense, Brant shouldered the bulk of the load offensively. Deemed an athlete, Brant rushed for 1,891 yards and 24 touchdowns on 324 carries, along with 28 receptions for 374 yards and another three scores.

The Kuithe brothers’ duel commitments are significant for a variety of reasons.

For starters, Blake, ranked as the nation’s No. 1,010 player and the No. 136 player in Texas, per 247Sports Composite, is now the highest ranked member of the Owls’ 2018 class. Furthermore, their pledges capped off what was a borderline mind-boggling week on the recruiting trail for Bailiff and his staff, giving Rice commits No. 10 and No. 11 throughout last week alone and 13 total pledges.

Their pledges lift Rice’s 2018 class to No. 53 nationally — a 10-spot increase from Friday night — and No. 1 in the C-USA.
