The Browns still have time to screw this up

There’s a very simple answer to the question of the first pick this year, and it’s to take Myles Garrett. However, it’s still the Browns making the first pick, so there’s still time to completely and totally screw this up. Yes, the Browns need a quarterback, but the guy that they’re looking at, Mitchell Trubisky, needs a lot of polish, as do most of the quarterbacks in this draft. Garrett has the intangibles to be one of the greatest all-time, there’s no reason to not take him.

There’s a possibility that Mahomes could fall all the way out of the first round

As stated earlier, all of the quarterbacks need polish. Mahomes has some of the biggest upside in the entire draft, he has a howitzer on his right arm, and he has the smarts to back it all up. There are still some teams that aren’t that excited about Mahomes, and others who would like to draft him later, as he’s going to need some time to adjust to the NFL and they have other spots to worry about. Mahomes could go literally anywhere from a top 10 pick to the second round.

Texans could go 1-2-3

If the Browns make the correct choice and draft Myles Garrett, there’s a chance that Solomon Thomas of Stanford and Jamal Adams of LSU could go back to back. It’s a big deal anytime you get the first two picks from your state, but getting the first three picks is essentially unheard of at this level. It’s a testament to the quality of football that’s played at all levels in Texas.

The Houston Texans desperately need a QB, but they could go another route

The Texans very obviously need help at the quarterback position if their offense is going to catch up with their defense. There are still some rumors out there that the Texans are going to wait until the second round to snag a quarterback. Ultimately, whatever quarterback they take will be a project, and they need some instant impact on their offensive line, which is a route that they could take.

Two stellar defenders could fall because of diluted drug tests

Rueben Foster and Jabrill Peppers both had diluted drug tests at the Combine, and even though there’s no definite proof that there was any malicious intent in the dilution, we’ve seen guys slip in the draft for far less. Peppers and Foster are both huge talents, but character issues are always huge on GM’s radars.
