One of the best defensive players in Texas A&M history is heading to the College Football Hall of Fame. Linebacker Dat Nguyen is one of 13 players and coaches that were announced as the College Football Hall of Fame’s class of 2017 on Monday.

Nguyen played his high school football at Rockport-Fulton High School, where he played both middle linebacker and punter.

He then moved on to Texas A&M, where he became the school’s record-holder for most consecutive starts (51), tackles (517), and tackles-per-game average (10.7). Nguyen is also the only player to lead the Aggies in tackles all four seasons. He was also the Bednarik and Lombardi Award winner during his senior season in 1998.

After his time in College Station, Nguyen was drafted in the third round by the Dallas Cowboys in 1999. He spent all seven seasons of his career in Dallas.

Nguyen was also inducted into the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004 and into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the AT&T Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame in 2007.

Nguyen goes into the College Football Hall of Fame with Peyton Manning, Steve Spurrier, Matt Lienart and former Texas offensive lineman Bob McKay.
