In what is probably the most anticipated game in the Metroplex this week, defending champion DeSoto will make the trip up I-35 to Denton to take on Coach John Walsh and his Guyer Wildcats. After an exciting Week 1 slate, these two 6A powerhouses will meet at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex in Denton.

DeSoto is the defending 6A Division II State Champion led by quarterback Courtney Douglas who threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns in the Eagles bout with Dallas Jesuit last week. DeSoto’s defense came came up huge last week with an interception in the last few seconds to clinch the victory 41-36.

Guyer had a similar victory last week as their defense stepped up in a big way against Mansfield Lake Ridge. The Eagles jumped out to a 21-3 lead over the Wildcats but Guyer came out in the second half and took over. They scored 34 unanswered points including an interception return by De’Ray Darthard to take the lead for good 37-21. The offense took control behind running backs Kaedric Cobbs and Devin Jefferson who combined for 173 yards and four touchdowns on 33 carries.

This is definitely going to be an offensive matchup. Both defenses came through when needed last week but it will come down to the defense that steps up in this game that will be the difference maker. DeSoto’s pass rush could be enough to disturb Guyer quarterback Luke Stillwell into forcing a bad pass and could cause some mistakes, but if there is a break in the coverage, Guyer could end up running away with this one in the end.
