Usually at this point in the season Southlake Carroll and Euless Trinity are one and two in District 5-6A. Most seasons the only loss between these two teams is to one another when they play head to head in district play. This year it seems like Carroll’s win over Trinity threw Trinity’s season into a tailspin.

Like many years, both powerhouses were expected to make a deep playoff run, and were once again looking to be on track to do so once again this year. Carroll lost their season opener against Union, a team from north of the border in Oklahoma, but had righted the ship going into their matchup with the Trojans. The Trojans had been rolling and were a perfect 4-0 heading into their date with the Dragons. It looked like it was going to be another epic chapter in the history of the Trinity Carroll rivalry, and it seemed to be fate that this marked the 10 year anniversary of the biggest game of this rivalry.

The way the game started it looked like it was going to be another great game. It was 7-7 after one and 28-28 at half, but 14 unanswered points by the Dragons sealed the deal. It seems like since the second half of that game the Trojans haven’t been right. The following week winless Byron Nelson went into Euless and shocked the Trojans in overtime winning 21-20. All of a sudden the undefeated Trojans had two district losses. The Trojans looked like they had gotten right the next week against Bell with a 56-7 win, but the winning ways didn’t last long as the Trojans once again lost to Hebron 39-21.

The good news for the Trojans is if they win out they still have a chance to make the playoffs. The two games they have left are against Flower Mound (2-3) and FM Marcus (3-2) meaning if they beat both teams, Trinity, who currently has a district record of 2-3, will either have a better record or be tied with but have the head to head win. If Flower Mound clinches a spot before Trinity, the Trojans will definitely be out. If the Trojans sneak into the playoffs they will be a tough out for whoever they play in the first round… if they make it to the first round.

At this time Trinity would play Allen in the first round — IMO not a good match up for the Trojans.
