The USA Today Super 25 is out and it features five teams from Texas. Three of the five teams are from the Dallas metro area, one from Austin are, and one from Houston area. Texas had the most teams in the poll with five, California and Florida both had three teams, which is a tie for second most teams in the poll.

5. Cedar Hill
Cedar Hill is the highest ranked team from Texas and they are poised for a big season. They have 10 starters returning on offense, leading that offense is quarterback Avery Davis who is committed to Notre Dame looks to build on his 35 total touchdown season in 2015. Longhorns have five key players on defense returning, led by linebackers Dimitri Moore and Deven Lamp. Cedar Hill’s first game is nationally televised against Bishop Gorman on 8/27 on ESPN2.

10. Austin Lake Travis
The Cavaliers round out the top 10 as 2015 6A-2 finalists. On offense, all key skill positions players’ return led by QB Charlie Brewer, WR Cade Green, RB Maleek Barkley and OL Breden Jaimes who is 6’6”, 265-pounds. Offense will be a strength for the Cavaliers, but safety Austin Miller will lead the defense from the back end. Lake Travis starts their season off on 8/26 facing off against San Antonio power Judson.

12. Katy
Lots to replace for the 2015 6A-2 champions, 14 starters from that team are gone, but in Katy it is never a rebuild it always a reload. Katy will have an impressive running attack led by Deondrick Glass, Kevon Copeland, and Josh Oglesby. Defensively, it will be tough to match only allowing 62 points all season and 18 in the regular season, but LB Breydon Boyd will look to match last years performance. Big test week one for Katy, as they travel to take on Austin Westlake on 8/26.

15. DeSoto
Coming off a rough 6-6 season, the Eagles look to become a state power again. Head coach Todd Peterman is entering his second season at the helm. Shawn Robinson looks to be the starter as he put up good numbers last season with Denton Guyer having 27 total TDs. DeSoto starts their season off against Jesuit on 8/26.

18. Allen
The Eagles pursuit fell short as they lost in the state semifinals in 2015. New coach Terry Gambill comes in from Waco Midway and replaces Tom Westerberg who left for Barbers Hill. Mitchell Jonke should be the full-time starting quarterback after splitting time last year with Seth Green. Allen will have to replace LT Greg Little who was one of the top recruits in the nation and is headed to Ole Miss. Allen starts their season on 8/26 at home with a big out of state opponent against Hoover H.S (Hoover, AL).
