Summer Creek hosts Friendswood at NRG Stadium on Friday for a big 6A area playoff matchup. Friendswood is 8-3 coming off a big win against rival Pearland Dawson in the bi-district round. Summer Creek is 7-3 with a 63-24 win against La Porte last week.

Humble Summer Creek is led by Kansas State quarterback commit John Holcombe. Holcombe is a top quarterback prospect in the state who’s utilized his arm and legs to carry Summer Creek this far. With the help of running back Trey Johnson, the Bulldogs have established a dangerous running game to pair with speedy wideouts Deon Cormier and Jamison Frazier.

Summer Creek is tested, coming out of a tough district that included Atascocita and North Shore. Led by an experienced offense, the Bulldogs will need to live up to the hype if they expect to advance.

Friendswood is headed by freshman quarterback Luke Grden who’s protected by SMU Offensive Guard commit Max Yarbrough and a top ranked offensive line. Grden made his first start last week and in two weeks he’s already tallied seven touchdowns. He’ll head the Mustangs looking to advance to the third round with the help of receivers Austin Alvarez, Koleman Bell, Nick Swaney and running back Mason Barnes.

The strength of the Mustangs however, is the defense, up front Wyatt Hall and Juke Yurachek are imposing front seven figures. Meanwhile, Yale commit Reid Nickerson and junior cornerback Colton Halata patrol the backfield. Halata is coming off a standout performance which included a 74-yard pick six. Summer Creek is tough, but Friendswood will need to be tougher.
