The idea sounded good: Pick an all-century high school football team from Texas. Base it entirely on how players did in high school, not in college or the pros. Get a panel, sort out the names, put it in the paper.
And on it went. The panelists from across the state stretched their memories and turned in the lists, full of familiar names, names that any football fan in America knows: Earl Campbell, Bob Lilly, Forrest Gregg, Eric Dickerson.
But no Donald Moore.
Maybe you’ve never heard of him. Donald Moore played from 1976-79 at Splendora, a tiny town in the Piney Woods a half-hour northeast of Houston.
