One of the top quarterback prospects in the Class of 2018 has decided to play his college ball in the Southeastern Conference. Sachse quarterback Jalen Mayden announced his commitment to head coach Dan Mullen and the Mississippi State Bulldogs during Sachse’s spring game on Tuesday night.

The four-star quarterback chose Mississippi State over his other top choices in Baylor, Louisville, Nebraska and Tennessee.

In the announcement video, Mayden credits the family atmosphere in Starkville along with Mullen’s development of quarterbacks. In his coaching career, Mullen has helped developed quarterbacks from Alex Smith to Tim Tebow and most recently current Dallas Cowboys signal caller Dak Prescott.

Mayden is ranked as the 34th ranked overall prospect in the Class of 2018 and the second ranked quarterback in Texas only behind Spencer Sanders of Denton Ryan according to 247 Sports.

The southpaw quarterback has burst on the scene as a true dual threat the last two seasons, throwing for 5,336 yards and 59 touchdowns as well as rushing for 1,145 yards and 15 scores. Mayden is also a two-time District Offensive MVP award winner in 11-6A and 10-6A respectively.

With two older brothers currently playing Division 1 football (wide receiver James at Rice and cornerback Jared at Alabama), Jalen appears to be next in line from the Mayden family to make an impact in college football.

As for his current high school team, Mayden will look to take the Mustangs even farther in 2017 after finishing the 2016 regular season with an undefeated 10-0 record. Sachse fell to The Woodlands in the area round of the Class 6A Division 1 playoffs last season.
