Gerry Stanford was announced as the new head coach of Texas High yesterday. He was formerly the head coach of Flower Mound Marcus.
The coaching change comes after former head coach Barry Norton left for crosstown rival Arkansas High.
Texarkana ISD Superintendent Paul Norton had this to say about Stanford in a statement: “He is not only a highly compassionate and committed educator, but is extremely capable of instilling in the hearts of young student athletes positive life lessons through academics, athletics, and strength of character.”
Texas High finished 10-1 in 2016, and went undefeated in the regular season before losing to West Mesquite in the first round. Marcus finished 5-5, and did not make the playoffs.
