6A championship crowds epitomize majesty of Texas high school football

A total of 83,096 fans attended for the two Class 6A championship games on Saturday.

The rematch of last year’s contest between Galena North Shore and Duncanville drew a crowd of 47,818 people — more than 26 of the 39 college football bowl games from last season.

Those in attendance were not disappointed as there was future NFL talent for both teams on both sides of the ball.

Virginia Tech verbal commit Demartrius Davis took home his second consecutive offensive MVP award.  The future Hokie has a chance to be the greatest Texas high school quarterback we have seen since Kyler Murray if he can finish his senior season with his third ring.

Miami Hurricane commit Corey Flagg took home the defensive MVP after leading the charge on a crucial fourth-and-1 stop near the goal line that sealed the game.

Duncanville stars such as Auburn signee Chris Thompson Jr.  and receiver Roderick Daniels Jr. also showed why they are some of the best athletes from the state.

Sadly, however, Duncanville star quarterback and Texas commit Ja’Quinden Jackson was forced to miss the game with a knee injury.

The Division II matchup between Austin Westlake and Denton Guyer drew a crowd of 35,278, which is more than 18 bowl games from last season.

Sadly the momentum of this matchup was taken out just 5 plays into the game as Texas A&M commit Eli Stowers, of Guyer, injured his knee and was out for the remainder of the game.  Westlake would go on to win 24-0 but still treated the late night crowd to a fantastic display of defense.

AT&T Stadium may be the only stadium in the world that is a big enough platform for the magic that is Texas high school football.  As we now move on to the 2020 season, in 364 days we shall see if next year’s games can reach the mark of 50,000 people in attendance to see one of the greatest sporting events on Earth.
